BSEC title race hots up as series heads to Manor Farm, Northants
This weekend sees the UK’s top enduro racers compete in the penultimate event of the 2012 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship as series organisers GMC Events team up with Enduroland for a not to be missed event at the exciting Manor Farm venue, Northants.
With the Manor Farm venue proving popular with competitors in all classes during 2011 the BSEC series will once again make use of the fantastic terrain on offer, mixing a plentiful supply of grass tracks with natural woodland and numerous man-made obstacles. Despite the recent heavy rain, a track inspection earlier this week has revealed that aside from one or two wet areas the majority of the track is in prime condition having not been used in over five months.

After his double victory at Saints Well, Mid Wales, TM’s Jordan Rose enters rounds seven and eight as the Elite class leader. Fresh from his outstanding performances at the recent Spanish and Portuguese rounds of the Enduro World Championship, Jordan will be hoping his newfound speed will carry him to further BSEC success this weekend.

“I’m really excited about heading to Enduroland,” commented Rose. “Starting the event as the championship leader adds a little extra expectation to perform but I’m hopeful that my recent good results in the EWC will help me to deliver another strong performance.”

However, with many riders also keen to steal a win in the BSEC Elite championship, Rose will face stiff opposition at Adstone. Of those eager to secure victory are the KTM duo of Tom Church and Daryl Bolter. Both riders have now reached peak form as the championship passes the halfway point and at round five and six both pilled the pressure on Rose. This weekend they too will be focused on reaching the top step of the podium.
Add into the mix the consistent performances of Husqvarna’s Jamie Lewis, along with Husaberg’s Si Wakely, Mark Roberts (Kawasaki) and KTM’s Lee Edmondson and the battle for Elite honours will undoubtedly be as fierce as ever.

In the Under 23 class the fight for victory between Gas Gas’ Danny McCanney, KTM’s Jonny Walker and Husaberg’s Alex Rockwell is sure to rage on this weekend. With three race wins to date it’s McCanney that currently leads the way. Placing first and second in Saints Well, the Manxman has since racked up more podium success in the EWC and currently lies third overall in the Enduro Junior World Championship. With momentum on his side, he’ll be hoping for a winning result.

Sitting just 11 points behind McCanney in second position is KTM’s Jonny Walker. After a commanding double win at rounds three and four, the young Cumbrian was distinctively off his game last time out. Using this weekend’s event as preparation for his assault on this year’s Erzberg Rodeo, Walker will be determined to put a dent in McCanney’s championship lead.

Tasting victory at round six of the series in Saints Wells, Rockwell is a rider that also enters Adstone following time spent on the EWC tour. Fourth in the Enduro Junior class at the recent Spanish GP, the Manxman has the ability to turn rounds seven and eight of the series into a winning ride. Knocking on the door of a top result is Husqvarna’s Jack Rowland, Lewis Belfield (KTM) and Jordan Scott (KTM).

Hard charging Steve Holcombe is on the verge of being crowned the first champion of the 2012 BSEC season. Clocking up a maximum six wins from six starts in the Under 19 class, Holcombe will be focused on ending his weekend as the new Under 19 champion. Behind Holcombe, Kawasaki’s Joe Wootton, James Dent (KTM), Joe Jones (KTM), Robert Johnson (Husqvarna) and Aaron Smith (Husaberg) are all focused on reaching the podium.

In the 125 Youth Cup the race for victory heats up between Lee Sealey (KTM), Brad Freeman (KTM) and TM’s Josh Gotts. With Sealey holding a slender two-point lead in the championship over Freeman, and with Gotts just six points further back, the penultimate stop of the BSEC series will be a crucial one for all involved.

It’s Tyson Maytom-Jones (Husaberg) that currently heads the way in the Expert class. Picking up a win at round five in Saints Well, the Husaberg rider holds a four-point advantage over KTM’s Richard Ely. However, with KTM’s Oliver Hart just three points behind Ely in third, and beginning to find his form in the series, it’s still all to play for in the Expert class.

Another rider that remains undefeated in 2012 is Jane Daniels (KTM), who may also be crowned champion at Adstone. Securing maximum points so far in the championship, Daniels is looking to become the first ever Women’s champion of the BSEC. Adding further spice to the class will be the battle between Rhian George (KTM), Katie Walker (KTM) and Fionn Griffiths (KTM).

In the Clubman class, TM’s Gethin Francombe is currently on a roll. With three wins from the last three races, he’ll be hoping for his win streak to continue in Adstone. However, Richard Topping (Honda), Jamie Jenkins (KTM) and Ian Smart (KTM) will be keen to capitalise on any mistakes he makes this weekend.

With it all still to play, for the penultimate venue for the British Sprint Enduro Championship at Enduroland in Adstone, Northampton, is the place to be this weekend.

Hafren DBC BEC Sponsored by Rock Oil North

Hafren DBC members have been busy preparing for the last few months for this years Rock Oil North - Hafren Enduro, round 3 of the British Enduro Championship.

Much of the event will be similar to previous Hafren BEC's with the paddock being at Llanidloes Rugby club just outside the town, offering competitors good facilities such as permanent toilets, showers, bar and food, all within walking distance of the town, all of which helps to create a good atmosphere and weekend away for everybody.

The biggest change for this years event is we are going to use shorter lap, down from the usual 45 miles to 30, this has come about as a result of feedback from riders saying they prefer the shorter lap in order to get more special tests in, so we will try it for this year and see how it goes.  As always we aim to make sure the course will be rideable for all classes, with one reasonably challenging short tight check, where we may have a dual route from the check with Championship and Expert riders using a slightly different route so as to challenge them without killing off the Clubman.

As usual there will be 2 special tests, we had hoped to have an old school cross country test in the forest, but due to issues with the forestry commission this has not been possible, which means it will be 2 grass motocross type tests.  The usual one close to the start which will be used morning and night, and a brand new one at Glynhafren farm. The shorter lap will also hopefully make it easier for pit crews and spectators, as there will only be one service at the test at Glynhafren.

This years event is sponsored by Rob Sheldon at Rock Oil North.  Entries will open this coming Monday, 14th May, riders will be able to enter using the on-line entry system which we have trialed with our last few rallies, postal entries will still be accepted for the dinosaurs out there!  Regs and the link to the on-line system will be on the HDBC website from Monday www.hafrendbc.co.uk <http://www.hafrendbc.co.uk/>
Eddy's Xtreme Final Is On At Enduroland

Paul Edmondson has now confirmed that the final round of the ACU British Extreme Enduro Championship, the Eddy’s Xtreme Enduro series, will be running on Saturday June 23rd at Manor Farm Adstone in Northamptonshire.

The venue is home to Enduroland and has hosted big events in previous years but the Xtreme Final looks set to be the biggest and best yet.

Enduroland’s Boss Hog, Nigel Wheatley, has jumped at the opportunity to host the event and both he and Fast Eddy have plans underway to make the event memorable. The first two rounds of Eddy’s Xtreme Enduro series have tested riders over two one-hour races, then one two-hour race and the final round will be a series of shorter Enduro-X races over a newly built course.

The format for the event will see each class ride for 15 minutes of timed qualifying, purely for start positions, followed by four individual class races with the top five riders from each class, excluding Youth racers, contesting a Grande Finale in the evening, followed by plenty of partying and entertainment.

Adstone already has a small Enduro-X course which will be replaced, totally redesigned and rebuilt by something much larger and much more spectacular that will be Europe’s largest outdoor Enduro-X arena when completed.

A recent meeting at Adstone between Paul Edmondson and Nigel Wheatley was very productive and plans for the Extreme Arena have already been drawn up with work starting in the next couple of weeks.

The course will be built in a style which will encourage racing for pure spectator entertainment and after looking at recent extreme events such as Red Bull Romaniacs and   Red Bull’s New Zealand venue both Fast Eddy and Enduroland will be bringing sections such as wall rides, containers and other European style obstacles, not usually seen in the UK, to this event.

With KORR’s Jonny Walker leading the Championship it will be his to lose, however, with KTM’s David Knight and Husaberg’s Graham Jarvis still in contention amongst a host of other top stars who excel at this type of racing, the final round promises to be the ultimate showdown on the ultimate course at a really superb venue.

Adstone has the capacity and facilities to accommodate an event of this scale but more importantly for the riders, it also has some seriously technical sections outside the arena, which will be used throughout the day before the final showdown in the Arena on Saturday evening.

Eddy’s Xtreme Enduro has maintained the five-class format; Pro, Expert, Clubman, Veterans and Youth 13-16 limited to just twenty riders per class. Demand for entries is expected to be heavy with so many riders in contention for a British Championship title across all classes.

Boss Hog will attend to all matters outside of racing. There will be plenty of entertainment throughout the weekend with a firework display, the famous Dog Inn, a live band, mini bike and quad hire and plenty to entertain kids and parents in addition to the stars of Enduro racing for a British Champions title in the most spectacular fashion.

As if the Extreme Final was not enough to sate rider’s appetites there is also a round of the Rock Oil XC Championship scheduled for the following day where riders can experience the course used by the Pros.

Make a date in your diary, Adstone June 23rd and 24th. Definitely one not to miss.

Spectator prices and entry costs remain the same so please contact Mandy on 01543 370070 or go online to fasteddyracing.com for more details, entry forms and information. Entries open on Monday May 14th.
IOM R.A.C.E.
With former British Enduro Champion Juan Knight’s pre-event words fresh in their minds David Knight, Tom Sagar and Paul Edmondson set out knowing “it wouldn’t be easy” and so the first special test of the day proved.
Winding through the wet, rutted and root infested Manx woods the course proved to be a true test of rider and bike.  Technical throughout, fast in places and energy sapping, it was clear Juan was going to make them work for the victory.
As the three sat at the end of the first Enduro Test the thing Sagar and Edmondson found least easy was the blistering pace Knight had just shown.  With each timed run the two mainlanders got closer but Knight was never anything but blisteringly fast and relentless.  It’s no secret that Tom Sagar is amongst the very fastest riders in technical, snotty enduro tests and indeed he got closest to Knighter.  Edmondson rode each test like it was a very fast check and arrived at the end of each eight minute  test hardly out of breath.  Whether that’s the result of supreme skill or needing to pace himself for the long day ahead he never said.  As they left the enduro test the order was: Knight, Sagar, Edmondson.
The motocross test was laid out on a grassy hillside and though there had been some rain earlier in the week it was quite hard packed and similar to numerous Enduro World Championship tests around Europe.  Each test would be a four minute dash and Edmondson had a glint in his eye as he left the line.  The stop watch showed Knight was again the fastest but Edmondson, a previous winner of British MX Championship races, pushed Sagar in to third place.  It seemed Fast Eddy was right; there is life in the old dog yet.
Knight’s times through both the Enduro and Motocross tests were devastatingly consistent, proving that he riding within his limits and making sure every bump, every corner is completed with precision.  Both Sagar and Edmondson visibly improved as the day progressed and it was clear for all to see why they’re genuine candidates for British enduro Championships again in 2012.

Knight is, quite frankly in a different league and with his current pace, determination and fitness it’d be a brave person who doubted his ability to bring us another World Championship this year.
After a full day of riding hard the only damage to rider or bike were two very worn handlebar grips on Edmondson’s Honda – a 250F does have enough power after all. Each rider commented on the day:
Paul Edmondson:  At the end of last year I wasn’t sure if I had the enthusiasm to keep going but a load of “encouragement” from Clive and from Roger Harvey at Honda and, well here I am.  I’ve got to say I’ve had more fun today than I’ve had for a long time.  My CRF250 is fantastic, the company has been quality and I’ve been riding my bike – fast.  What more is there?  I rode smoothly through the enduro test, making sure none of the rocks, roots, ruts and stumps damaged the bike.  It worked well, I didn’t tire myself out and the bike still looks like it did when it came out of the van.  The motocross test was the bo***cks, I enjoyed that a lot and I kept them both honest. David’s riding as well as I’ve ever seen him ride, through the woods he was absolutely awesome but never sketchy.  Considering how much power his bike has (it really is far too much for anyone) the way he took it round the MX test was impressive too.Tom works a full time job so struggles to find time to train but when Tom puts his leg over the bike he’s as determined and focussed as any of us – and more than most.  No matter what happens I know Tom will keep going and that’s why we get on so well together.

David Knight:  To be honest I wasn’t sure what to expect from today and I have to say I’m happy with how it’s gone.  I ride a lot but I need people with me, who can keep me honest so I can watch my progress.  Taking time out of Sagar in snotty enduro tests is something anyone would be happy with and we all know how fast Ed is around a motocross track so that felt real good too.  My bike’s getting better every time I ride it, sometimes I think it’s a bit too powerful but today it worked just great.

Tom Sagar:  It’s been really good and perfect preparation for next weeks BEC.  I’m pleased I was getting closer to David in the woods and being right on Paul through the motocross test shows me that I have the fitness and the speed.  The bike’s just awesome, a standard CRF450 with some suspension work and a big Trail Tech flywheel and it’s as good as anything I’ve ridden.  We will do some mapping with HPR at some point but really, I’d be happy to ride it as it is anywhere, anytime.  Now where are those pasties Juan was talking about.

Final say of the day would have gone to Juan Knight; if he’d said anything to say.  Juan just smiled and walked back in to the Ginger, he knew he’d done what he set out to do.

Devon Delight for GBXC

The GBXC series will be firing on all cylinders over the weekend of  21-22nd of April as the second round of the GBXC cross country series is preceded by the opening round of the 2012 GBXC Sprint Cross.

Both events will run at the spectacular Preston Combe Farm near Kingsbridge in Devon, a venue that has proved to be a great draw for riders in previous years.

With huge rolling hills leading into several woodland sections connected by ditches and banks this venue has something for everyone.

The eagerly anticipated GBXC Sprint Cross will run on Saturday 21st April around just part of the main GBXC course.

The Sprint Cross provided spectacular action last year as many riders opted for the hard routes instead of the chicken runs, which were littered around the course. Transponder timing will be used for both events.

Many local riders take full advantage of having two high-profile events on their doorstep and the entry always has a good share of Devon boys in the ranks giving stiff competition to the GBXC regulars who make the journey down south.

In addition to the Sprint Cross opening round the GBXC continues on Sunday 22nd with its second round following the very successful opener at Sweet Lamb, which threw up a few surprises. Many riders will be hoping to improve their championship standings with a win at Preston Combe, which can be considered a neutral venue, offering a great mix of terrain not favouring the MXers or technical riders.

This venue always provides excellent racing and a very enjoyable family weekend, usually in sunny Devon sunshine. Postcode for the venue is TQ7 4DL. Entries are available online at www.gbxc.co.uk or by calling Mandie on 01543 370070

Husqvarna Enduro Team Ready In Argentina
The Husqvarna Enduro Team by CH Racing’s participation in the Enduro World Championship continues this weekend with Matti Seistola, Lorenzo Santolino, Ricky Dietrich, Juha Salminen, Alex Salvini and Romain Dumontier competing in the GP of Argentina, round two of the 2012 EWC series.
As the final leg of the championship’s visit to South America for a second consecutive weekend the event will take riders to a never before scene location. In contrast to last weekend’s Chilean terrain, the tracks and trails in and around San Juan after crossing the Cordillera of Andes , will present new arid and rocky challenges.
The 50km lap, which features one extreme, one motocross, and one enduro test, will be ridden four times each day.
Enjoying a winning start to his participation in the 2012 Enduro World Championship having topped the Enduro 2 class on day one in Chile Juha Salminen starts the GP of Argentina second in the E2 championship standings, just three points behind class leader Ivan Cervantes. Looking to continue his good form, Juha will again start at the front of the E2 class, which, like in Chile, could well prove to be extremely important in the expected dusty conditions.
Juha’s Enduro 2 class mates Alex Salvini and Romain Dumontier will also be looking for success in Argentina. Salvini, who after a frustrating opening day placed a creditable third on day two, will be looking to lift himself up from his current position of sixth in the E2 standings. Likewise Dumontier is also determined to improve his results in what will be only his second event as a ‘senior’ class rider.
In the Enduro 1 class all team riders will be looking to improve on their results from the GP of Chile. Spain’s Lorenzo Santolino delivered the best performance for the Husqvarna Enduro Team with a fourth place result on day one. Frustratingly mistakes on the second day prevented Santolino repeating his impressive results.
For Enduro 1 class team leader Matti Seistola the GP of Argentina will offer the chance to put right to disappointing results at the season opener. Like many riders, Matti saw his day one result spoiled due largely to catching slower riders on the enduro test. Day two saw an improvement with Matti placing fifth but the Finn was anything but pleased with his results and is determined to finish on the podium on both days in San Juan, Argentina
Podium success for Salminen & Salvini at EWC GP of Chile
Talca (Chile) - Husqvarna Enduro Team by CH Racing riders Juha Salminen and Alex Salvini both secured podium results at the opening round of the 2012 Enduro World Championship, the GP of Chile held in Talca.
Reigning Enduro 1 World Champion Salminen claimed a convincing win in the Enduro 2 class aboard his TE310 on day one, while Salvini put a difficult opening day behind him to claim third in E2 on day two. With conditions extremely dry and dusty in Talca, the opening day saw many surprise results, due largely to one difficult uphill on the enduro test.
While several of the Husqvarna Enduro team riders saw their results suffer as a result of lost time on the troublesome enduro test, Juha Salminen delivered the goods to start his season in the best way possible – by placing his TE310 on the top step of the E2 class podium. Despite improved speed on the event’s motocross test on day two Juha made a few too many mistakes to challenge for the podium, including one costly error on the enduro test.
Despite his day two frustrations the Finn showed impressive speed throughout the event, and now looks forward to next weekend’s GP of Argentina.
Competing alongside Salminen in the Enduro 2 class, Alex Salvini and Romain Dumontier endured two tough days of racing. Both riders suffered numerous falls on day one but Salvini was able to turn his fortunes around on day two to claim a deserved third place result, placing just 20 seconds behind runner-up Ivan Cervantes. Romain Dumontier crashed on numerous occasions throughout both days to place 11th and 19th in the Enduro 2 class. In the Enduro 1 category team riders Matti Seistola, Lorenzo Santolino and Ricky Dietrich all battled through two challenging days of racing, with Seistola delivering the best results. Aiming for podium finishes on both days the Finn showed good speed throughout days one and two but saw several mistakes on day one prevent him from finishing higher than sixth in class. Determined to improve his result on day two, on several occasions Matti caught slower riders ahead of him and lost time riding through their dust. Seistola placed fifth. Making their debut’s for the Husqvarna Enduro team by CH Racing Frenchman Spain’s Lorenzo Santolino finished a strong fourth on day one but down in 13th on day two in Enduro 1. Ricky Dietrich placed 12th and 11th over the two days in the same class on his debut in EWC.
Juha Salminen – Enduro 2: ‘It’s been a good weekend really. The first day went surprisingly well, and to win first time out on the new bike was really great. It was a strange day. One enduro test decided everything. It wasn’t a great situation for a world championship race, having so many slower riders effectively blocking the track in the hardest part, but that was what it was like for too many riders. I was really pleased with how things went on the motocross test. It was very encouraging. But I felt like I generally rode better on the second day. My times on the motocross test were better than on the first day but I made too many mistakes. I hit a tree on the first enduro test and fell off, and lost a lot of time. I also made a mistake on the second lap. It was generally a very technical race, but not too hard. But it’s been a great start to the series, I’m looking forward to Argentina now.’
Alex Salvini – Enduro 2: ‘My speed was good on many of the tests on the first day, and I managed to get some special test wins. I was really pleased about that. But I had a few problems on the first day, which cost me a good result. Day two was much better. I crashed in the first extreme test but after that I felt good and rode well. The enduro test was still difficult, despite the changes that were made. Generally I’m happy with my riding. I hope that in Argentina I can have a little better luck and also remove the few mistakes I made this weekend.’
Matti Seistola – Enduro 1:
‘It’s been a tough weekend for me. My speed was good in the extreme and cross tests but I messed up both timed enduro tests. The first time I had a big crash and the second lap I got stuck on the big hill and lost one-minute. My speed was good for a podium result, but with the mistakes it meant that I couldn’t get a top three finish. The second day was a little bit the same, as I was struggling with the enduro test. I didn’t have any crashes but I had some problems with the dust. My times weren’t as good as I wanted on the motocross and enduro tests. I was loosing a few too many seconds each time. Sixth and fifth isn’t what I was looking for at the first GP but I know I can improve.'
McCANNEY CLAIMS TWO PODIUMS TO HOLD SECOND IN2012 JUNIOR WORLD ENDURO CHAMPIONSHIP

Gas Gas’s Danny McCanney got his Junior Enduro World Championship season off to a great start at round one in Talca, Chile at the weekend. Riding a factory-prepared Gas Gas EC300 Racing, the Manxman took a second and third finish from the two days of competition to place second in the Junior standings, just eight points down on double-winner Mathias Bellino of France.

Danny McCanney: “These were hot and dusty conditions with hard pack terrain, not something we see a lot of at home – so I’m very happy I spent two weekends racing in Spain in preparation for this. As it was I enjoyed the 11-minute enduro test and was never out of the top-three on that, even posting a fastest time on the second attempt on Saturday.“My slowest times came in the extreme section, mainly because I crashed! Even though I’ve practiced extreme in the UK there’s big a difference between winter extreme and summer extreme! I’ll be working on this for the coming rounds. “Overall I’m very happy with the start to the EWC year, to be on the podium is exactly what I was planning and to have already claimed a runner-up means my next logical goal has to be to win!”

Steve Plain, Gas Gas UK team manager: “Danny rose to the challenge this weekend. He’s only ridden one world championship round before this weekend, so to come here in his first proper season and immediately jump on the podium on both days is a brilliant result. I’m even more impressed because Danny rode the whole event in a dust cloud from the riders in front – he was the seventh starter in the class – while the winner was always in clear air riding off the front, that makes a big difference.“Again his EC300 Racing ran perfectly, he gets on so well with it he has his hands free to learn all he has about the competition. And it was a great to see him on the podium both days together with his senior team-mate Ivan Cervantes, who has put the prototype EC450 at the head of the E2 world championship in its debut race. All round an excellent weekend for Gas Gas.” Danny McCanney’s next event is the second round of the Enduro World Championship in San Juan, Argentina this weekend.(image courtesy of ABC Communication)
Solid start to 2012 EWC season for Knight

KTM Enduro Factory Team rider David Knight has made a promising start to his Enduro 3 World Championship campaign, finishing fourth and second respectively at the GP of Chile. Getting his weekend off to a strong start, Knight ended the Friday evening Super Test a strong second in class. However, due to his low starting position on day one – the result of his injury ruined 2011 season – the three-time Enduro World Champion would have to start the event close to the rear of the Enduro 3 class.

Struggling to feel completely comfortable with the dry and extremely dusty conditions in Talca, Knight was forced to constantly fight against the choking dust. Trying to make the best of a difficult situation, he eventually ended the opening day in fourth. Frustratingly, David finished only four seconds short of second overall in the Enduro 3 class.
Knowing that his pace was fast enough to reach the podium, Knight started day two determined to improve on his fourth place result. With organisers allowing more time between riders, and with modifications made to the enduro test, David was able to get a clearer run through each test, which allowed him to ride as he wanted to.

Finding a comfortable rhythm the KTM rider consistently placed within range of race leader and teammate Christophe Nambotin, ending the day as runner-up.Importantly, the starting order for next weekend’s GP of Argentina will be taken from the Enduro 3 class championship standings, meaning David will start among the riders he will be competing against.

David Knight: ‘Day one was hard work. The conditions were extremely dry and dusty, which made it almost impossible at times for me to see clearly. My start position caused most of my problems, as I had to start each of the tests deep in the pack. I was pushing for the runner-up position leading into the final motocross test until I caught a slower rider and became blinded by his dust. In the end I finished fourth and ended up missing out on second place by less than four seconds.’
‘Day two proved to be a lot better. I managed to close the gap to Christophe and beat him in some of the tests to finish in second. I was pleased with that considering he had a clear track by being the first rider into each of the tests. We worked a lot on the setup of the bike during the weekend and it really helped with my riding. My speed was good and I felt that I was beginning to ride like I know I should. With a better starting position next week in Argentina I hope I can continue to improve my results.'

Knighter – focused on returning to the top

Following a 2011 season wrecked by injury, KTM Enduro Factory Team rider David Knight returns to the Enduro World Championship next weekend fit, strong, and determined to win another Enduro 3 world title. Here the three-time E3 champion talks about how his pre-season preparations have gone and his hopes for the year ahead…

How’s your pre-season preparations been, racing both British and Spanish Enduro Championship events?
David: ‘My results have been a bit mixed. At the opening round of the British Enduro Championship I won both days, which I was really pleased about. The conditions were very muddy and it was a tough weekend of riding so to come away with two strong wins there was very rewarding.
I also rode the opening round of the British Sprint Enduro Championship too. The conditions were extremely cold and on the first day I crashed and hurt my hand but I recovered well the following day to get the win.’

You also travelled to the Spanish championship, but things haven’t gone so well there?
David: ‘Yes, with the first two rounds of the Enduro World Championship being held in South America I was conscious of getting in some training on dry and dusty conditions. I suffered with a small bike problem during both rounds but when everything was going good I was pushing for the Enduro 3 class win. I was pleased with that as the quality of the riders competing was high and the tests were quite tight and twisty, which made it hard work on the bigger four-stroke bike. Unfortunately, we had some bike problems but I think we’ve almost fixed the issue.’
Last year you were sidelined following double hip surgery, are you now fully recovered?
David: ‘Yeah, I’m feeling really good about how I’m riding at the minute. Everything is back to normal and physically I feel 100 per cent. I spent a lot of time during the winter working on my fitness and building my strength back up. I’m looking forward to getting back into world championship race mode again.’
With the world championship kicking off next weekend in Chile, what are your expectations for the season ahead?

David: ‘My goal is to win. I want to be the world champion this year - that’s the only goal that I have in mind. It’ll be a tough fight this season as there’s some really good talent in Enduro 3, which is sure to make it an exciting season. My immediate goals are to make it through Chile and Argentina without problems. Last year my season ended before it really began and I know from that how important these next few weeks will be. I’ll be racing to win but if I can’t then I know it’ll be crucial to end each day on the podium.’
As you mentioned there is a lot of talent in the Enduro 3 class this season. Do you see Christophe Nambotin and Joakim Ljunggren as your biggest rivals?
David: ‘I think they’ll be the two strongest guys to look out for, but I hope I’ll be stronger. I think Christophe will probably be the biggest threat – he proved that last year in his battles with Mika Ahola. He’ll be a serious championship contender, that’s for sure. Also Joakim has stepped it up as well. He now does a lot of his training in Spain so he’ll be fast in those conditions and he’s also got a home race this year so he’ll be keen to do well in that. But I’m experienced enough to know that this will be a long season and what matters is being consistent at every event.’
What are your thoughts on racing in South America, have you ever raced there before?
David: ‘I’ve only ever been to Mexico and that was in 2008 for the FunEnduro race. I think Chile will be even ground for everyone. Judging by what I’ve seen and read about it, it’s going to be somewhat hard pack and stony so it won’t be the same as what the ISDE was a few years ago. I enjoy those types of conditions and think they should suit me. I’m looking forward to getting the championship started.’
Taddy second at Spanish Enduro Champs Rnd 2
KTM Enduro Factory Team rider Taddy Blazusiak has finished as overall runner-up at the second round of the Spanish Enduro Championship, held in Antas, Almeria. Competing in what was the FIM SuperEnduro World Champion’s final pre US Endurocross event, Taddy put his disappointing performances at the Spanish opener behind him to finish ahead of Enduro World Championship regulars Ivan Cervantes, Joakim Ljunggren, Oriol Mena and Lorenzo Santolino.Extremely dry and dusty conditions welcomed competitors in Antas, with three laps of racing and a total of nine special tests decided the results. Never too far away from the race leading pace set by his KTM team-mate Cristobal Guerrero, Blazusiak’s consistency paid off late in the race. On the third and final enduro test a mistake by Ivan Cervantes allowed the Pole to move into second in both the overall and Enduro 2 classifications.

Taddy will now spend the next four-to-five weeks tackling ‘rocks and logs’ on the Endurocross tracks close to his home in Girona, Spain as he ramps up his preparations ahead of the opening round of the US Endurocross series, which starts in Las Vegas on May 4.
Taddy Blazusiak: “I’m really pleased with my second place result. It’s been a good couple of weeks with winning at the British Sprint Enduro Championship and now getting runner-up here in Spain. It makes up for the disappointing result at the first Spanish event. Like in the UK I raced with an enduro motor, not the Endurocross engine I used at the first event in Spain. It was great. This is my last race in Europe before heading to the States for Endurocross so knowing that my speed was good is a real boost to my confidence. It was a great race, very dry and dusty and pretty hot, about 30 degrees. Cristobal always goes well on hard-pack terrain, which makes finishing second to him even better. I made a few mistake on the first two laps, nothing big, but was generally consistent and riding like I knew I could. Cervantes made a big mistake on the final enduro test, which allowed me to get the runner-up result. The extreme test didn’t have much extreme stuff on it, so I didn’t have any big advantage here. It’s been a great day. It’s back to the Endurocross training now. I’ll spend the next four or five weeks riding rocks and logs. It’s a great end to my pre-Endurocross races in Europe. I’m loving racing the 350 and looking forward to the start of the Endurocross championship on May 4.”
McCANNEY MAINTAINS LEAD IN UNDER 23s AT BRITISH SPRINT ENDURO CHAMPIONSHIP
Pic by Richard Jones/MLAP Photography
Gas Gas?s Danny McCanney took two solid runner-up finishes at the third
and fourth rounds of the British Sprint Enduro Championship at Llangrove,
near Monmouth at the weekend, riding his EC300 Racing. Team-mate
Luke Meredith, riding an EC250 Racing meanwhile won both rounds in the Expert category.
The event was held on a fast, flowing circuit, in dry and sunny conditions. McCanney set some of the fastest times on both days but small mistakes cost him dear, finishing second in the Under 23s on both days (third outright on day one, 6th on day two). McCanney maintains his lead in the Under 23 BSEC standings.
Luke Meredith, meanwhile, enjoyed trouble free runs taking a fresh-fromthe- crate EC250 Racing to two dominating victories over the Experts.
Danny McCanney: “I was on the pace this weekend but little mistakes cost me dear. On Saturday, after a bad start, I was within half a second of the lead after the penultimate run, but I made a couple of small mistakes on my last run and the win the slipped away. On Sunday it was tight, but again my mistakes counted too much against me. My Gas Gas EC300 Racing was, as ever, spot-on – as you could see in the times. I guess for a bad weekend it?s not so bad though, I?m still leading the standings with 1-1-2-2 results. I?ll come back stronger.”

Luke Meredith: “This was a one-off ride for me, we literally took an EC250 Racing out of the box and raced it, bone-stock with just 10 minutes on the motor! The bike was awesome, definitely the right pick for this kind of an event, and with pukka enduro gearing it had all the speed I needed for the long fast straights, it?ll eat any ?crosser on top end. The suspension was awesome as well. So, no issues. Job done.”

Steve Plain, team manager: “A tough weekend for Danny. He was working hard on refining his bike set-up – mindful of the EWC races to come – and this probably took the edge off his racing. When he stopped the tuning and just rode he got much faster. But with such a packed schedule sometimes you end up using races like this as development time. No excuses though, he was second both days. I'me happy with Luke?s performances. Luke?s a play rider, he does a bit of this a bit of that – trials, motocross or enduro. So to come here on a stock EC250 Racing and win the way he did was brilliant – and he?s another example of what?s possible with these new bikes. We?re loving our 2012 ECs!” Also racing: Jack Lee placed 6-5 in the Experts on his John Lee Motorcycles Gas Gas EC300.

Jonny Walker came to form at rounds 3 & 4 of the Sprint Enduro
Championship last weekend. Winning both days despite pressure from rival
Danny McCanny. On day 1 Jonny set the early pace and his times where only bettered by his factory team mate Taddy Blazusiak, during the last few test's McCanny closed in and actually took the lead by 0.46 of a second on the penultimate lap, but Jonny claimed back 3 seconds on the final stage to win the day and finish runner up to Taddy making it a KTM 1 and 2.
Day 2 and with the course reversed Jonny made no mistakes and in the first
few tests opened out a 16 second lead, for the remainder of the day he just
controlled his advantage and took another well deserved Under 23 class win
Jonny Walker SHR KORR KTM 300 EXC “ Last year I struggled on this track
and could not match the pace of the leaders, but this year after a lot of MX
training I am much more comfortable and confident, my 300 was awesome and I really enjoyed the race and of course claiming back some points on Danny “
Julian Stevens Team Manager “ Another solid weekend for Jonny, everything
went very well and a bonus was 2 days of sunshine, also our junior rider James Dent on his 250 EXCF claimed a well earned podium both days in the Under 19
BESC ROUNDS 3 + 4   Team Edmondson Racing. Pic by Richard Jones/MLAP Photography

BESC ROUNDS 3 + 4     Team Edmondson Racing was out in full flare for this, the second venue of the 2012 series.

A great natural course and at last the weather to match, made a welcome change to any previous event this year.  Elite class rider Lee Edmondson had a impressive weekend and showed that the riders he is doing battle with are more than aware of his improvement in speed over last year. A steady start on the slippy surface showed a cautious approach, which he built upon as the day progressed.

By late afternoon he held an impressive P ?, as again over half the riders in front were factory / importer supported and every bit expected to be there. Now feeling very at home on the 250 two stroke XC his confidence is growing after a great result in the very muddy “Abbey” event which saw his best ever BEC result to date. Its great to see such improvement in any rider and the whole team deserve a pat on the back as they all have a hand in its development.

Expert rider Rich Ely on the 250 XC-F had an average day as he did strain to match the pace of the class leaders. More at home on slower more technical terrain, the fast area’s of MX type going is proving a challenge when riders of a more MX background enter the BESC arena. Never the less, he plugs away accepting tips and motivation from team boss “Derrick Eddy” in the true spirit of a friendly and jovial team atmosphere even when he’s told to get his ‘Fat Arse’ out of the seat more!

Young Brad Freeman in the new 125cc “Youth Cup” suffered similar effects as his first full season up from a big wheeled 85 shows his task of mastering an adult size bike will take some time. A few front end “wash Out’s” highlighted his lack of adult strength in his upper body but again his determination and help from the team will without doubt make him a great rider in the not to distant future. His weekends overall position took a battering when his rear wheel tyre came off the rim and caused him not to complete the final run of the day robbing him of an assured P3 in class on the second day. A bitter blow as his efforts over the weekend deserved a better final result than the points tally shows.
On the whole a good but unrewarding weekend that will motivate the lads to ride harder the next time out at next weekends GBXC opener at Sweet Lamb in Wales.Big thanks too for birthday boy “Dan Charles” who again produced a great pair of videos, one on the team riders and the second of the event itself. They can be both viewed on You Tube under the search of his reference 1144DRC. The team congratulates him on his enthusiasm in his newfound skill.  The number of hits he receives regularly shows how much his subscribed viewers receive them not to mention Off Road Racing enthusiasts as a whole.
Congratulations too to the BESC organizers and marshals, as I am sure everyone had a warm and enjoyable weekends racing. Well done!

MPS on the Podium

After the literally freezing conditions of rounds 1 and 2 of the Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship in Hampshire, rounds 3 and 4 held at the fabulous Llangrove track on the English/Welsh border couldn’t have been more different, with sunglasses being required and the temperature well into positive double figures on both days.

What wasn’t any different was the approach of MPS team mates Jack Rowland and Jamie Lewis who again attacked both days full of commitment and looking to improve on the results of the first weekend.

On his TE250 in the Under 23s class, Jack Rowland started the day as he meant to go on with his first lap seeing him 4th in class. Event organiser GMC Events had ensured the day would be a test of stamina for all riders with 8 laps packed in to the day so there was plenty of opportunity to make or lose places throughout the full days racing. However Jack rode consistently all day, keeping in contention with the top three riders on their E2/E3 class bikes but not quite able to close the gap until he snatched 3rd place on the last lap, the highest place E1 bike in the Under 23 class.

In the Elite class, Jamie Lewis on the TE310 was hoping to improve on his 6th place finish of round 1 but despite getting faster every lap, taking some 18 seconds off his initial lap time, Jamie finished round three as 6th in class. A good result for the team considering there were two World Championship riders in his class but not where Jamie wanted to be

.Round 4 on Sunday was a shorter day, with 6 laps of racing planned on a course running in the opposite direction to Saturday. With just 6 laps, every lap had to count and Jack started Sunday where he’d left off Saturday, finishing lap 1 in 3rd place. For the following five laps, Jack proved his consistency with a variation of less than 8.5 seconds over each approximate 7m 30s lap to again finish 3rd in class

.For Jamie, round 4 started better, still 6th after lap 1 but in much closer contention to the Elite class leaders than on Saturday. Smooth, fast and mistake free all day, Jamie kept the TE310 in sight of the leaders but couldn’t quite find the pace to improve on his first lap finish position and again ended the round in 6th place in the Elite class.

Katy Bullock on the WR125 started well on Saturday but an unfortunate crash towards the end of the day dropped down to 5th in the Ladies class, a result she duplicated on Sunday. Rob Johnson, riding with MPS on the Newcastle Motorcycles TE250 also delivered strong performances on both days with two 4th places in the Under 19s class.

Mick Seward, team principal for MPS Racing: ‘We come away from rounds 3 & 4 of the Sprint having again proved how competitive our bikes and riders are against the best riders in the country. I’m extremely pleased with the way all riders performed and to again have both Jack and Jamie in the overall top ten on each day is a testament to how hard the team has worked this weekend.’MPS Racing would like to thank all team members and sponsors for their on-going support.

Track n Trail Visits Japanese Jungle for Round 5.
New Event: The Tenko Enduro Nr Dorchester 27th May 2012. This new venue is just what we have been looking for, mostly wood land running in and out of open heath land much of the wood land has grown up throughout gravel and sand pits and will be fairly technical. Due to the loose sandy soil we have decided to have the adult competition running on trials rear tyres, but any type on the front. For all youth competitors with 18 and 19 inch rear wheels the trials tyres rule will also apply. All other size rear wheels can use any tyres front and rear. This is the land the BBC used when filming the Tenko series back in the early 80s, because it looked so similar to the Japanese jungle. I just hope they know the war has finished!

At the moment this is planned to run as a Hare & Hounds but closer to the time we may chose to run as an Enduro format!

Ivan shines with hints of the coming World Championship

The debut of the Spanish championship together the best international riders and Ivan was second in Scratch. Guillaume and McCanney highlighted in E3.
The first round of the Spanish Enduro championship this past weekend in Vinaros (Castellon) assembled an important group of international riders who used this race to prepare for the first World Grand Prix of the season. This was the case with the Gas Gas official team, which not only moved the team to the Castellon coast of Spain but their entire training gala. This indeed not only allowed them to enjoy a big debut of Ivan Cervantes with the new EC450F with Enduro 4T engine in E2, but also the remarkable performances of Sebastien Guillaume and Danny McCanney with the EC300 in E3.

Ivan had a dramatic struggle all day with Johnny Aubert, Christopher Guerrero, Eero Remes, Joakim Ljunggren and Juha Salminen for victory in Scratch, with Cervantes achieving a tight second place behind Aubert and in front of Guerrero. This same fight moved to E2 with identical protagonists. In E3, uillaume strengthened his debut with the new EC, being second after Ljunggren and ahead of a sublime McCanney. He is the young man from the Isle of Man and European champion in 2011 who was the latest addition to the official Gas Gas team and demonstrated that he intends to be a serious
candidate for the World Junior Championship. In E1, Gonçalo Reis and Josep Rallo finished with an outstanding sixth and ninth place with the EC250F and Jordi Figueras managed to finish ninth in E3. The second spanish race takes place on March 18 in Antas (Almeria), a week before the
start of the World Championship in Chile.

Ivan Cervantes: "I can only be happy with this outcome. Starting with this
rhythm and feelings are very important and still when we have been fighting with many of the rivals from the World Championship. We have a lot of things to be done, since our new 450 4T is a bike with little time, but this race was almost a test that has shown that we're in good shape. We must continue to evolve, but we leave here full of enthusiasm and desire".

Danny McCanney:"Everything is new for me. Never have I raced in Spain and I am used to the mud and the snow, but I think it has been good.
Being on the podium has been fantastic and I hope to do more races here and gain all the experience that is possible”.
Jordan Rose Looking Good For BSEC Rounds 3&4
Electraction TM’s latest signing hopeful of another strong BSEC result…

As rounds three and four of the 2012 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship head to Llangrove, Monmouth this weekend one rider in particular is hoping to keep his momentum rolling from the opening rounds of the series – Jordan Rose.
The Electraction TM rider was unquestionably one of the surprise performers at the BSEC season opener, and is looking for continued strong results this weekend.
Quickly putting the disappointments of a derailed chain at round one behind him, Rose bounced back at round two to claim an impressive third in the Elite class. But third was a result that could have been even better, as Jordan explains.
“Round two started off better than I had expected. I was fastest during the first two special tests but I still felt like I had more left to give. With the conditions improving I pushed harder on the third test, but as I jumped into a sandy bomb hole I missed a gear and it tossed me over the handle bars.”
That crash cost Jordan over fifteen seconds and dropped him down the running order. But with two laps remaining the former top-flight motocross rider was still confident of a strong showing. However, with David Knight back on top of his game, a win was now out of the question but a podium result was still possible.
“Even though I had only two special tests left I knew that I had the pace to recover from that crash. I pushed as hard as I could and in the end I was able to finish third - only two seconds shy of second place.
“Aside from derailing my chain during round one, I was happy with my performance at the season opener. I feel that I’ve got the pace to run up front in the Elite class but I know it will be tough with riders like David Knight, Taddy Blazusiak and Ricky Dietrich in the mix.”
“I think switching to a new team has helped me,” continued Jordan. “I had some of my best results in motocross when I rode for them so it’s nice to be back with Electraction TM again. Although I’ve never raced in Llangrove before, I think the course should suit me and hopefully I can aim for another podium result.”
The 2012 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship continues with rounds three and four at Llangrove, Monmouth on March 10/11.

Manx duo Knight & McCanney favourites for continued BSEC success at Llangrove…

The 2012 Husqvarna ACU BSEC series continues at pace as the championship heads to Llangrove, near Monmouth on March 10/11, welcoming Britain’s best and international stars Blazusiak and Dietrich.

Moving away from the sandy, forestry of Aldershot, the picturesque Llangrove circuit near Monmouth, nestled along the English/Welsh border, will offer a farmland track that’ll be in complete contrast to the series opener. Mixing a natural hillside scrambles circuit with technical woodland, the venue will ensure another weekend of exiting race action as the 2012 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship moves on from the sub-zero season opener.

Topping the overall classification at round two Gas Gas UK’s Under 23 sensation Danny McCanney is set to enter the weekend as favourite for top honours in the Under 23 class. By claiming a double victory in Aldershot, the reigning Under 23 champion got his title defence off to the perfect start. Grabbing a commanding victory at round one, the young Manxman fought back in the closing moments of round two to snatch the win on the final test. But will he be able to do the same at rounds three and four?

Although Alex Rockwell was all but certain of winning round two, even recording his own personal best time of the weekend in the final test wasn’t enough to secure victory. For Rockwell, being beaten in the dying moments of the event proved a disappointing end to a near perfect day. But knowing that he is now capable of beating his Manx neighbour, the Husaberg rider will enter Llangrove focused only on winning. Chasing the duo will be KTM’s Jonny Walker. Matching the pace of the leading two, Walker was unlucky not to sandwich himself between the Manx duo. With crashes during both rounds, he has now learned that only a mistake free ride will allow him to compete for victory. Hoping to get closer to the top three, Jack Rowland (Husqvarna) and Jordan Scott (KTM) and Lewis Belfield (KTM) will be looking to bridge the gap this time out.

At the series opener it was Frenchman Johnny Aubert (KTM) and David Knight (KTM) that shared victory in the Elite class. With Aubert absent this time round, Knight will be keen to continue his winning ways, as well as making sure the younger Manxman Danny McCanney doesn’t top the overall classification once again. Knight will unquestionably arrive in Monmouth determined to re-establish himself at the top of the pecking order. Finishing second overall at round one, Poland’s Taddy Blazusiak (KTM) returns to the BSEC eager to improve on his previous result. Continuing to use the series as preparation for his upcoming US Endurocross championship defence in May, the newly crowned SuperEnduro World Champion could face a strong challenge from the vastly improved Electraction TM mounted Jordan Rose. Leading the opening two tests at round two, it was a mistake from the former top flight motocross rider that eventually dropped him back to a third place result. Confident now that he has the speed to run up front, Rose may yet again deliver the surprise result in Llangrove.

Now fully recovered from a knee injury sustained prior to round two, Husqvarna’s Ricky Dietrich returns for rounds three and four. Showing speed to challenge the Elite frontrunners at round two, Dietrich will be determined to put his difficult season opener behind him and deliver his true potential. Mixing in the former Grand Prix motocross star turned enduro rider, Tom Church (KTM) along Si Wakely (Husaberg), Jamie Lewis (Husqvarna) and Daryl Bolter (KTM), the Elite class is sure to be another closely fought class. In the Under 19 category KTM mounted Steve Holcombe got his BSEC series campaign off to a perfect start with a commanding double victory. With confidence now high, Holcombe will be keen to keep his winning streak alive. Joe Jones (KTM) finished runner up to Holcombe on both days in Aldershot to get the better of Aaron Smith (Husaberg) and Joe Wotton (Kawasaki).

Competing in the newly introduced 125 Youth Cup, Husaberg’s Jamie McCanney convincingly won both rounds in Aldershot and remains favourite to do so in Llangrove. Behind him the battle for the remainder of the podium places will be as hot as ever. Josh Gotts (TM), Lee Sealey (KTM), Brad Freeman (KTM) and Jack Staines (Yamaha) are all capable of a top result. Winning rounds one and two, Richard Ely (KTM) got his participation in the Expert class off to the best possible start and will be looking to keep his winning form alive this time out. However faced with strong challenges from Jack Lee (Gas Gas), Tyson Maytom Jones (Husaberg), James Jackman (Honda) and Oliver Hart (KTM), Ely will have his work cut out this time around. Jane Daniels (KTM) continues to be the favourite in the Women’s class. With a dominating performance in Aldershot, she’ll be eager to add to her winning tally at rounds three and four.

In Clubman the fight for victory is set to be a four-way battle between Matthew Solan (KTM), Gethin Francombe (TM), Richard Topping (Honda) and round one winner Jamie Jenkins (KTM). With the 2012 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship already proving to be a fiercely contested series, Llangrove is poised to deliver yet another weekend of exciting racing.

Husqvarna ACU BSEC Opening Round.
Under a blanket of snow the opening two rounds of the 2012 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship fired into life near Aldershot, Hampshire delivering some thrilling racing action and close fought battles. With temperatures plummeting to minus 10 degrees Celsius prior to the start of round one, the series witnessed two different overall winners as Frenchman Johnny Aubert topped the results at round one while Under 23 class rider Manxman Danny McCanney rode to an incredible outright win at round two.
Using the BSEC season opener as a testing session ahead of his assault on the Enduro World Championship, KTM mounted Johnny Aubert quickly mastered the slippery conditions to top the hotly contested Elite class while also winning the event outright. Winning three of the five special tests, Aubert rode to a convincing Elite victory ahead of newly crowned FIM SuperEnduro World Champion Taddy Blazusiak (KTM).
Starting cautiously, Blazusiak soon found his rhythm and worked his way into second overall, finishing just in front of defending BSEC champion Tom Sagar (Honda). With both Aubert and Blazusiak unable to compete at round two, KTM’s David Knight, who opted not to ride at round one after falling on the first lap and hurting his hand, took control of the Elite class proceedings to win round two.

Showing no ill effects of his round one crash Knight ended the day’s competition 24 seconds clear of Sagar. Sagar’s consistency with two top three places put him at the head of the Elite class by the end of the weekend. TM’s Jordan Rose achieved his best ever BSEC result with third overall in the Elite class having lead early on.
Danny McCanney (Gas Gas) got the defence of his Under 23 class title off to a perfect start with a double victory. Posting consistently fast test times McCanney won the opening round of the series by 19 seconds from Husaberg’s Alex Rockwell. However, it was Rockwell that set the pace during the majority of round two. Leading his class and also the event outright for the most part of the day, McCanney eventually overhauled his Manx neighbour to claim yet another victory.
Overcoming a six-second deficit leading into the final test, McCanney laid down the fastest time of the weekend to top the final result sheets by four seconds. In close pursuit, KTM’s Jonny Walker was third both days as the talented Under 23 trio also ended round two as the top three overall performing riders.
In the Under 19 class, Steve Holcombe comfortably earned his first ever BSEC victory by winning his class at round one by over 34 seconds. Joe Jones (KTM) and Aaron Smith (Husaberg) were second and third. At round two Holcombe continued to get his 2012 campaign off to the best possible start by claiming another victory in Under 19. Joe Jones again finished second behind Holcombe as Joe Wotton (Kawasaki) recovered from his round one non-score to end the day third pushing Smith back into fourth overall.
New for 2012 was the introduction of the 125 Youth Cup for riders under the age of 19 on 125cc, or smaller, two-stroke machinery. Making his first appearance for Husaberg, Jamie McCanney easily claimed a double victory in Aldershot. At home in the slippery conditions, McCanney also briefly led the event outright by placing in front of two-time Enduro World Champion Johnny Aubert at the end of lap one.
Behind McCanney the battle for the remaining podium positions was very much alive. Brad Freeman (KTM) followed McCanney home for second at round one while Lee Sealey (KTM) finished third with TM’s Josh Gotts in fourth. The positions were reversed at round two with Gotts putting in a strong ride for second just four seconds ahead of Sealey.
Switching to new machinery for 2012, Expert victor Richard Ely enjoyed a superb weekend. Starting the event with care, Ely quickly overhauled early race leader Jack Lee (Gas Gas) to win the opening round by six seconds. With Lee holding onto second, Tyson Maytom-Jones (Husaberg) followed the pair home for third. Ely again was the top Expert performer at round two to mark a perfect start to his season. Second time out Maytom-Jones was Ely’s nearest challenger finishing less than six seconds adrift at the end of round two. Lee fended of a late charge by Oliver Hart (KTM) to complete the Expert podium.
In the Clubman class Jamie Jenkin’s claimed the first win of 2012. Unable to recover from an early morning crash, Northern Ireland’s Richard Topping had to settle for second as Erich Schonwalder improved throughout the day for third. Finishing fifth at round one, Matthew Solan bounced back to win round two. Gethin Francombe (TM) was second while Schonwalder again finished third with Topping in fourth.
The newly introduced Women’s class was a welcome addition to the BSEC programme. Top performer, Jane Daniel’s (KTM) made light work of the course to easily win both rounds in Aldershot. New to enduro, professional downhill mountain biker Fionn Griffiths (KTM) and Rhian George traded positions over the weekend. With Griffiths placing second at round one, George would finish second at round two. Emily Davey finished fourth on both days, while Stephanie Rowe was fifth.
The opening two rounds of the Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship provided some exceptionally closely fought racing in some extreme weather conditions. The series now moves on to Llangrove, Monmouth along the England/Wales border for rounds three and four on March 10/11.
Johnny Aubert – Elite: “It was really difficult today (round one) and took a lot of concentration to get a good lap. But this is enduro and sometimes we face some tough conditions. I tried to ride smoothly, not be too aggressive on the throttle and link my corners together. It worked out and I ended up winning. I loved the format of the event. It’s good for the riders as we can focus on racing the special test and not have to worry about anything else. We can also make changes to the bike and try out new things. I’ve really enjoyed the race and it was good to meet and talk to the spectators this weekend.”
Taddy Blazusiak – Elite: “I came here to do some testing and ended up coming away with second in Elite on Saturday. It wasn’t easy conditions to ride in but we made the best of it. The course improved after each lap and I was able to push a little harder each time. After racing nothing but EnduroCross for the last year I’m enjoying this type of racing and had a lot of fun.”
Ricky Dietrich – Elite: “It’s a shame how my weekend ended but I’ve come away learning a lot. At round one, I finished eight overall but a couple of mistakes held me back. For round two we made some changes to the bike and I was feeling great. My time in the first run was really good but then I hurt my knee a little.  I’ve enjoyed my first taste of the BSEC this weekend and now know what I need to work on and can expect for the next round.”
Danny McCanney - Under 23: “Leading into the last test of the weekend I knew I had a shot of picking up another win. I just tried to put my head down and make it count. It worked out and I won both my class and the overall. Winning yesterday as well has made it a perfect start to the season.”
Alex Rockwell – Under 23: “It’s been a tough battle all weekend between Danny, Jonny and myself. After finishing second yesterday, I thought I had him beat at round two but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. I had a small advantage leading into the final test and hoped I could win. I put in my best test of the weekend but so did Danny and he got me right at the end. All three of us are pushing hard and I think that’s showing now as we’ve finished top three overall today.”
Jonny Walker – Under 23: “I was putting in some consistent times this weekend and the battle for the win was tight all day. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to go better than third on both days but there hasn’t been much to separate the top three. It’s good to know that I can match the pace of the front guys. Leading into the final special test we were only separated by four seconds so I happy with how things have worked out. It’s going to be a good fight this season.”
Jane Daniels - Women: “Winning both days has been a brilliant start to the season for me. Initially found it hard to ride the conditions but as a line cut in I began to find my rhythm and ended up with a good result. Today the course was better and in the last half of the day it was beginning to come to its best. I’m excited to go to Llangrove where hopefully I can win again.”

Barcelona Superenduro
After a few good days testing and training in Spain with the KTM factory
Enduro team Jonny felt confident and ready for the final of the 2011/12 FIM
SuperEnduro Indoor Championship in Barcelona.
Going into the final round Jonny was holding second place in the series with a small 2 point advantage over Husaberg factory rider Joakim Ljunggren.
In the qualifying race Jonny made a poor start but quickly came through the
pack on a track which did not create good racing, the circuit was strange, quite fast and easy with the exception of one point which can only can be described as a sandy bog after the water section, this area caused most of the nights crashes and problems. The deep sandy rutted turn claimed Jonny when he crashed with another rider, he damaged the bike and had to withdraw from the qualifying race which would give him last gate choice for the finals.
Heat one and JW started from the second row , running outside the top 10 on lap one, he quickly moved up the leader-board picking off riders each lap until the race was red flagged due to another big pile up after the sand section !!!.
The race was re-run and Jonny had a tense performance to finish 6th,
unfortunately his main rival Ljunggren made 3rd position which demoted JW in the championship back to third.
Heat two and Jonny would make no mistake at the start, he powered his KTM 300 EXC to a holeshot and quickly pulled out a good advantage, however in the later stages he clearly slowed as he became tired and allowed Spanish rider Alfredo Gomez to get very close, the pair battled for 2 or 3 laps until finally Jonny took a well earned win .
The final race would see Jonny start again from the second row , he moved up to a top 5 position and just made a steady ride to the finish as his main rival Ljunggren was back in 8 or 9th position. JW's three consistent performances gave him second overall for the nights
racing, even though the organisers made a mistake and awarded another rider 2nd on the podium !!, but most importantly Jonny managed to hold onto the Championship 2nd position.
Jonny Walker SHR KORR KTM 300 EXC “After crashing in qualifying the night did not start well, damage to the bike meant I had to stop and therefore I did not earn a good gate choice for the finals. Because of this I felt under pressure and was riding very tense all night, the battle between me a Joakim
was very close and he actually beat me in the first race which only made it more difficult for me, in the end I got the result I needed and it was great to win one race, but i'm a little disappointed in the way I rode tonight, I would like to thank all the people and sponsors who have helped me earn this result”.
Julian Stevens Team Manager “This was I very difficult night for Jonny, with holding 2nd in the Championship it created a situation in which he had to perform and would test how he could race under pressure to keep his place. The night did not go easy, but at this round most of the riders suffered some bad luck and it was Jonny's consistency and race win which made the difference, he did a very good job tonight and certainly worked very hard for his runner up championship place”
Youth development – Friday track walks with Fast Eddy at all rounds of the 2012 BSEC series
Multiple enduro world champion Paul Edmondson is set to offer advice to BSEC youngsters during Friday track walks.
As part of their ongoing drive to encourage and develop the future stars of the British enduro scene, GMC Events are delighted to announce that former four-time Enduro World Champion and 17-time International Six Days Enduro gold medal winner Paul Edmondson will be on hand at all BSEC events during 2012 to offer ‘track walk guidance’.
Aimed at the younger riders competing in the championship, but free to anyone who wishes to participate irrespective of class or machinery, Paul will be on hand to advise and aid riders with line choices and riding as well as bike set-up tips. With the track walk planned to commence at approximately 2.00pm on Friday before each event, it’s hoped competitors will have ample time to arrive at each venue in readiness for the ‘Fast Eddy track inspection’. Paul will also be pleased to answer any questions riders might have throughout each event.
Paul Edmondson: ‘I’m more than happy to offer advise to some of the younger riders we have in enduro today. When I was starting out I often found it difficult to judge how some sections of a special test could be ridden. I hope I can use my experience to give support and build confidence to those that may find particular sections of the track challenging.
I hope that by being able to give feedback to the rider’s questions I’ll be able to give some of the youth riders the confidence to put in better special test times throughout each day. We have some great young riders coming through the ranks at the moment and I’m excited to be able to work with them. Hopefully we’ll see some positive results as the season progresses.’

Endurocross star Taddy Blazusiak signs up for British Sprint Enduro Championship opener…
Hot on the heels of the recent announcement that US racer Ricky Dietrich will contest the 2012 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship, organisers GMC Events are pleased to announce that Poland’s Endurocross star Taddy Blazusiak will also take his place on the start line at the series opener in Aldershot on February 11/12.
Blazusiak, the reigning AMA Endurocross champion and run-away leader of the FIM SuperEnduro series, will use rounds one and two of BSEC series as part of his preparation for the forthcoming 2012 AMA Endurocross championship. Taddy, who has dominated the indoor enduro racing scene throughout the past 24 months, has also indicated that, schedule permitting, he will contest as many rounds of the BSEC series as possible.
Taddy Blazusiak: ‘I had a great time when I raced the first rounds of the 2010 sprint enduro series in the UK and have wanted to come back ever since. Now that my schedule allows me to do that I’m really looking forward to competing in the British Sprint Enduro Championship again. The sprint format really works for me as great training as each special test is about the same length as an Endurocross race. In the States I race against a lot of riders from motocross backgrounds, so I have to constantly keep working on my speed.
The sprints are a great place for me to do that. I know there’re a lot of really fast riders in the UK so I’m excited to get in amongst them and do my best. I also have a lot of fans in the UK so to get the chance to come back and race in front of them is something I’m really looking forward to.’
Jonty Edmunds – BSEC Events Director: ‘Having Taddy sign up to compete in the BSEC opener is a major boost for the series. He last rode in the championship two years ago and since then has always stayed in contact with us. He’s had a phenomenal 24 months, winning just about every race that he’s entered with his hard charging riding style that’s always exciting to watch. Adding both Taddy and Ricky Dietrich to the entry list adds a great international flavour to what is going to be an explosive start to this year’s championship.’
The opening rounds of the 2012 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship take place Nr Aldershot, Hampshire on February 11/12.
US racer Ricky Dietrich Confirmed for 2012 Husqvarna British Sprint Enduro Championship
CH Racing Husqvarna’s new signing Ricky Dietrich will compete in the 2012 ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship.
With the opening two rounds of the 2012 Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship rapidly approaching American off-road racer Ricky Dietrich has confirmed his participation in the series, which starts in Aldershot, Hampshire on February 11/12.
Recently signing to race for the Italian Husqvarna CH Racing Monster Energy team where he will contest the entire Enduro World Championship, Dietrich’s decision to also compete in the Elite class of the BSEC series injects further excitement into an already hotly contested championship. Formerly residing in California, Dietrich is one of the State’s top off-road racers having won titles in both the AMA Endurocross and AMA WORCS series.
In 2011 Dietrich switched disciplines to compete in the AMA National Motocross championship finishing 14th overall - his season best result coming at round two in Texas where he claimed a superb fifth place. A rider with an excellent pedigree in both enduro and motocross, Dietrich is certain to prove a welcome addition to the 2012 BSEC series.
Ricky Dietrich: ‘I’m excited to be competing in the British Sprint Enduro Championship for Husqvarna. I’ve heard many good things about this series and feel that it will be perfect preparation for the Enduro World Championship. It will give me the opportunity to put in some real special test training under race conditions. My experience in enduro racing is limited but I’m keen to learn and I feel the BSEC will be the perfect place to do that.’
‘The championship has attracted a lot of talented riders so getting to compete against the top UK talent will give me a good indication of where both my speed and fitness is at. It will also be my first experience of the UK so I’m excited to see a little of the country, meet some new people, and maybe try out an English breakfasts I’ve heard about!’

About the BSEC
The Husqvarna ACU British Sprint Enduro Championship is the UK’s newest off-road motorcycle race series, promoted and organised exclusively by GMC Events Ltd. Sprint enduro is an exciting new rider, spectator, and media friendly discipline that delivers simple to understand, day-long, enduro racing action. The series caters for the best enduro talent in the UK. The BSEC is governed by the ACU – the internationally recognised National Governing Body for motorcycle sport in the British Isles (less Northern Ireland).
Ride Offroad UK at Scunthorpe. The Kirton Raiser.
High winds coupled with a bright sunny day offered a mixture of conditions for competitors and spectators as the 2012 rideoffroadUK organisation fired into life. A brand new venue near Scunthorpe, which has been a work in progress for 3 years, finally came to fruition for a pre championship warm up event.  With the start of the 2012 IOPD Doodson UK championship only two weeks away, the idea of a warm up event worked perfectly as a packed start line were ready to get back in the enduro XC groove before February 5th

Shortly after 8.30am a superb line up of keen youth riders set off for a one and a half hour event. On his return to full fitness Dalton Shannon took the holeshot and led for most of the race, as fatigue set in, Dalton was edged into second place by a mere14 seconds from Youth A winner Ross Johns. Tom Rial and Nieve Holmes finished in third and fourth places. In the Youth B class Josh Haith took a narrow win from 2011 champ Ben Clarke, Dawson Marriott took his Mansfield Motorcycles KTM 85 to a solid third place in his first pre season outing on his new machine.

As conditions brightened up, a packed start line of competitors for the adult event were eager to get going. From the off RideoffroadUK team rider Scott Austin took a cool holeshot ahead of the hard charging Biff Smith on his Sandiford supported KTM.Soon after the start a small crash cost Austin dearly as a damaged throttle cable saw a premature end to his early lead. Making great progress after a lousy start was Tom Healey, after lap 7 Tom had caught and past all the Expert riders to go on to take a superb new year win on his dads KTM300. Biff Smith limped home in second on a misfiring KTM which seemed to be due to water ingress. Trials ace Zac Sherwin showed great determination to gain the final podium spot in third.

The Beginner class saw Yorkshire lad Joel Foster take his RM250 to his first Hare & Hounds win, Dan Sadler in his first ever enduro, ground out a superb finish on his old RM125 taking second place back home to Acklams Motorcycles in Harrogate.

The Over 40 class battle was almost shaped from the start as Gas Gas UK spanner man Kev Hipwell led from start to finish. Kev has lots of experience, and was the only wise rider to keep his well prepped goggles on all race, something that is essential during wet winter events.

Clubman honours went to Stuart Waterhouse, Stuart who is one of the stronger enduro riders pushed hard for the entire race duration, this ensured he finished one lap up on his nearest rival Mark Cheatham. Karl Waltho grabbed third spot in a class which is shaping up to be very competitive as the 2012 season unfolds. A big pat on the back goes to our lady riders, in particular Jade Gordon who grabbed the win from Gina Bewlay with Becky Dawson in third. John Brindley had a good days racing to take the Over50 class win, and Steven Brown set his 2012 intentions into win mode by taking the Sportsman class win from enduro newcomer Rob Bunting. David Haith made it a family affair by taking the final sportsman podium place.

All things considered this Winter Warmer event was a resounding success, all riders admitted to needing valuable quality track time ahead of this year’s championship calendar. This new venue will offer another chance for a great event as a championship round will be held there in 2012. With more land at our disposal a lap time of 20 minutes should be achievable as the ground dries up, something that is almost unheard of in modern XC events.Massive thanks to the hard working marshals, the windy conditions certainly kept them busy repairing tapes. Next event is on February 5th at Lee Dell near Rochdale in Lancashire, Round 1 of the 2012 Championship.

The Track: This is a stunning, scenic, quarry based venue, here in North Somerset, with amazing natural rocky terrain, as well as man-made obstacles thrown in the mix. The track has been designed to cater for all riders, a lap which will provide a challenge from novice to pro. An Easy route “option” will be in place for Clubman, Sportsman, O40`s, & Ladies.  A Harder, more challenging route, will be implemented for the Timed & Observation Trial, which will include 6 Observed sections. Pro`s, Experts & O40 Experts, will also ride the Hard route, with additional PRO routes designed by Graham Jarvis, (optional for Experts) which should provide some really excellent  spectator sections.
Obstacles will include cars, logs, cable reels, oil drums as well as some gnarly rock gardens, plus a few other surprises.
Some super steep climbs and descents with little run up, should provide a challenge, also will be two sets of woods, as well as some large fields to provide a “breather” before the riders work their way back into the quarry basin try to notch up the laps and be the fastest rider around the course.

The Format: Race 1: The action kicks off at 9am with a 2 hour race for the Clubman, Sportsman, Veteran and Lady Riders. These guys and girls will face a challenging, yet ride able Sandford quarry extreme lap, with an “Easy” optional route. The winner will be the first across the chequered flag that has done the most laps in 120 minutes.
Commentary will keep the crowds informed who`s who, & who`s winning!
After the morning race, there will be a small break as the course changes are made excluding the “Easy” option ready for the next spectacle.

Race 2: 11.30 Timed & Observation Trial!  The Wessex Centre is one of the only ones in the country, offering this very popular format; Observed sections, against the clock!  This will be the same course, but with the “Harder route” with 6 natural & man-made sections, as quick as they can. This 75 minute race should be easy for the trials bikes, which are designed for this type of terrain, but with their small capacity tanks, fuel stops could prove to be crucial.
Additional changes to the course, will take place to accommodate a “Pro route” which, going on Graham Jarvis`s reputation, should prove to be more than tough!!!

Race 3: The Main Event. 2.5 hours of hard slog for these brave souls. Riders will have run to their machines in a Le Mans-style, Expert O40`s first....followed by the Experts......then the Pro’s! Guaranteed is extreme effort from the riders, guaranteed extreme action for the crowds.

This is an extreme event..................cleverly designed for everyone!!!

Track n Trail 2012
The Track n Trail team are very excited about the 2012 series, instead of having a Winter and Summer series we are having one huge series offering 9 rounds, with 7 to count for the overall championship, so it still wide open to all contenders.
A very successful Round 1 has already been run on the fabulous Salisbury Plain with hundreds of riders. (a great video of this is on our new website). Round 2 is on the 5th February at another brand new venue, Thorncoombe near Bridport. We believe This track will be one of the best Enduro tracks you will ride, it has everything a rider could ask for.
Plus don’t miss the riders favourite from last year, the stunning Matterly Estate, nr Winchester on 18th March. Each of our rounds this year could not be at better venues; we are offering pure enduro Heaven! And we continue to be out and about booking up land for the spring and summer dates. We really couldn’t be more happy with the venues that we have for this year. Mike would be surprised if any other organiser has such a good series and if they have he would like to hear about it because he would like to get back in the saddle this year!
As always we are excited about our Youth racing series. With many of our youth riders, who started with us in the 65cc and 85cc classes, now turning 16 and moving up to dominate the adult races, we are actively encouraging new youth riders to join Track n Trail.
We have a new website which we are currently testing and are about to launch on 26th January. This new website is groundbreaking and has all the latest technology. You can enter a race, become a member and choose your rider number without the need of those really annoying logins and passwords. You can do all this in less than a minute and when you return for the 2nd visit it will only take you a matter of seconds to enter an event. All this, plus videos, photo footage, race results and analysis and more. Plus don’t forget on race days we have the market leading live timing display with statistics. Track n Trail offers the best organised events with the friendliest staff and riders you can find anywhere.

Eddy’s Xtreme Enduro Update. Enduro-X to run January 29th
Following the hugely successful first two rounds of the ACU British Extreme Enduro Championship, Paul Edmondson has made the tough decision to postpone the third and final round until the summer.
An opportunity has arisen to build a Midlands-based custom-made Enduro-X course from scratch for the ultimate round of the series at a venue that offers great parking and spectator facilities and will accommodate the crowds of extreme enduro followers who have attended the first two events and give more US and European riders an opportunity to attend.
It has always been Fast Eddy’s aim to put on a spectacular outdoor Enduro-X event and moving to the summer will definitely offer better weather for what promises to be a cracker of a final event at a permanent track over a festival type weekend.
After discussions with many of the top riders, moving to the event to the summer seems to be a popular move but for January, Fast Eddy still has a surprise in store. He has arranged an Enduro-X event to run on January 29th, as initially intended, to test the format for the Eddy’s Xtreme final in the summer.
The end of the month will see a new all-weather Enduro-X course, just minutes from Junction 4 of the M5 motorway near Bromsgrove, in a sand based quarry which will be packed with all types of obstacles in addition to the tough sand banks and natural terrain.
There is no overnight camping but there is plenty of space on the hard-standing car park and paddock area and plenty to watch for spectators who can see the show for just £5 for adults and no charge for kids, bargain!
This event is aimed as an introduction to Enduro-X for riders who would not normally consider trying such an event. There will be several series of challenges that will be suitable for riders of varying abilities and although there will be plenty for the Experts and the top riders that have already agreed to attend. The event is aimed at all levels however, each class will be restricted to 20 riders. Course design will be very practical and basic in order to test the format fully. Classes for this event are as follows: Pro, Expert, Clubman, Veterans & Sportsman. Entries for Fast Eddy’s Enduro-X are now open but there are limited spaces for this event so get in fast if you want to try your hand at Enduro-X Fast Eddy style. Practice starts at 9.00am and racing at 10.30am. Go to www.fasteddyracing.com for entry details and information or call Mandie on 01543 370070

“Abbey Enduro” Round One ACU Doodson British Solo Enduro Championship 2012

Mid Wales Dirt Track MC & QC Ltd are pleased to announce that they will be hosting the first round of the ACU Doodson British Solo Enduro Championship 2012. Working closely alongside Paul Edmondson who has many years experience both in riding and running events will be a asset to the “Abbey Enduro” .
Paul Edmondson will head the team as Clerk of the course, with Harry Hockly and Steven Fletcher of Mid Wales Dirt Track working as assistants.
All of the team have been busy working behind the scenes, preparing the tracks in the woods, gaining valuable permissions from land owners etc.
The regulations are currently going through ACU house and will be available for release within the next few days.  Entry forms will be available from www.enduronews.com , www.ukxc.co.uk and www.midwalesdirttrack.com.  As a club we felt that in the current financial climate that releasing the regulations one month before the event, would give riders a little relief on their bank balances after the Christmas period.
The event is based near to the practice track of Saints Well, Abbeycwmhir (LD1 6PT). Starting from the same venue of “Fowlers Enduro” the event will utilise both Cwmcynnydd and Red Lion forests.
The aim of this BEC is to provide riders with plenty of special tests and fulfilment for the support crews. Therefore the start, refuelling and “Abbey” test are all located at the same place, this layout proved very successful at the recent Fowlers Enduro.
Therefore extending the compact club route and providing an extra test (two tests) will allow riders, support crews and spectators a taste of the action and a chance to see Britain’s best enduro riders.
Local accommodation can be found on www.visitmidwales.co.uk and www.rhayader.co.uk

No Hangover at Westwood. Pics by Chris Hudson. CH Images
The Total Enduro track crew lead by Graham Jarvis set out an interesting and in some places challenging lap around Westwood for the Bank Holiday Hangover XC, using the stream bed, some technical climbs in the quarry and a tricky log section all linked together by the superb flowing woodland giving an average lap time of around 11 minutes.

The 11am start was delayed by 10 minutes in order to accommodate the higher than expected day entries, the experts and 040’S were away first followed by the clubmen and finally the sportsman. 040 rider Justin Carter lead the riders around the first lap, but as the leaders settled in to the race Declan Helliwell and Joe Chambers took turns to lead the experts this continued for most of the 2.5 hour event until Joe suffered problems on the second to last lap, Declan pushed on to a fine expert win with James Reeve second and Grant Hacking third. Justin Carter was really pilling on the laps in the super competitive 040 class and took the win by a lap from Jason Crossland these two were that good that they would have finished first and second in the experts class proving that old is best !!
Josh Law had a 4 minute winning margin over Andrew Sykes in the clubman class both finishing on 18 laps. Mike Gilby won the sportsman from Darren Skillin, with David Heath third. Tara Johnson had a great ride in the sportsmen class finishing a fine 12th place and top lady.
A big thanks to all the riders that turned up we were shocked with the amount of day entries that came and pre booking would help to solve this problem. We start 2012 with a 7 round club championship from February to September some brand new venues and some old. 3 of these events will also form part of the excellent NEXC championship, I have checked all the published dates in the North and as far as I can see I have avoided clashing dates, the formula for events in 2012 will be, Saturday open practice for youth and adults 10am till 3pm, Sunday 9 am youth race, 11 am adults race. Realizing that we are in a major economic recession I have set the fees at affordable levels, club membership £6.00, adult race £40 Saturday practice £35, race and practice special deal £55 riders can pre book and pay right up until 7pm Friday night, pay on the day welcome but its more expensive. For more information visit www.totalenduro.co.uk see you next year, Graham Jarvis. Results

Edmondson Racing Team 2012

After a season supporting the high profile Fast EDDY Race team, Edmondson Racing have taken the decision to enter the 2012 season with a team bearing its own name.
Beginning early January (while boss man Derrick is away on Dakar duty with rider Stan watt and the Frontrow GB team), riders Lee Edmondson, Brad Freeman and new recruit Rich “Fast” Ely will make their debut.
Lee EDDY needs little introduction as a prominent team player in 2011; only difference is the switch to a 250 XC two stroke for his assault on the BEC E2 class and also the “Elite” class of the BESC series. Throw in the GBXC, Welsh Two Day and selected other events and that should keep him busy most weekends!
During the 2011 season, we had reported the impressive results of young rider Brad Freeman. He started the year on a Big Wheeled 85 in the Youth class in most of his Cross Country outings from which he won the high majority. Beating some quality competition, he began to mix it with the adult racers so much so that a decision was made to move up to a full size 125 almost a year ahead of any initial plans.
For 2012 he becomes a fully fledged member of the team on 125 and 150 two stroke machinery with his main aim of a podium in the newly formed 125 Youth Cup at the BESC. Other events include the GBXC  + Putoline Cross Country series and selected races that his age allows.

Thirdly, we have also decided to bring on board Rich “Fast” Ely as an Expert class rider to chase the BEC Expert E1 title he held a couple of season’s back. Since his title he admits that some “average” performances need to be addressed and the motivation of bearing the “Edmondson Racing” team name is what is needed to do just that. His bike will be the 250 XC-F 4 stroke and he too will grace the entry list of all BEC and BESC races.
The growing number of “Veteran” class’s at many cross country events have also led to a limited support of midland based rider Jason Hope on a 300 XC two stroke who will bear the team graphics and benefit from the intended training. From late January onwards, the team have planned some early “Test” days to ensure that it has bikes set up from the “off” rather than changing spec as the races pass by.
“It’s a step back from the high quality team we supported in ’11 but with so much equipment at my disposal, I still felt it positive to go again in 2012.  We had “courted” a couple of top-flight riders to see if our budget was compatible but sadly it didn’t happen. From this I decided to support the riders mentioned and hopefully help them progress in a strong and forward direction”
What was encouraging was the continued support of our loyal sponsors of Proseal and Michelin, which is truly fantastic. Add to this the first class product support of Alpine Star, Motorex lubricants and a growing list of others yet to be confirmed, we are very pleased with our efforts so far”
As mentioned at the beginning, Team Principal Derrick will be away in South America on Dakar duty with team Frontrow GB rider Stan Watt. Stan will be riding the new 450 Rally Replica and with a strong five man support crew not to mention two 4 x 4 support vehicle’s, his 2012 Dakar is looking like the best single effort of any individual UK rider in its History!
Stan’s strength is his Navigation skills and hopefully that will come to the forefront as the rally progresses from Argentina through Chile in to Peru.
“I keep telling him that it can be done with a fraction of the budget and one mechanic but even though he openly agrees, he still insists on having the quality of an Ex Troy Corser Moto GP mechanic on board as well as some “man Servants” to make it all run smoothly as the Dakar could ever be”
The full compliment is Stan Watt as rider, Dave Marton as chief mechanic, Truck driver Ivan Finklestein with Keaton Allen in the Mercedes 917. High speed 4 x 4 Toyota is driven by Voltcom co director Mark Wright as his intentions are a competitive drive in the event in ’13 and yours truly as Navigator and general “Facilitator” of the team as a whole!
So a very busy start to 2011 and we will keep you all posted as things progress.
Derrick Edmondson.
Enduroland Sandfest

When Nigel Wheatley (aka Boss) at Enduroland got offered a private stretch of beach on the east coast some years ago the club was very new and neither experienced enough or in any position to hold a suitable event befitting this superb location.

Now nearly six years on Enduroland have joined forces with one of the countries leading enduro/hare and hound clubs and their maestro Mr Pete Carter to hold an event which will now be two days of sand /beach riding practice for the young and old alike.

Bring in to the mix world vets mx rider Phil Mercer, AMCA riders Matt porter and Darren Carter to help layout the tracks and arguably one of the best sand events this year is emerging.
Two adult practice tracks are being designed and built, one of which will be jump based with a large 'WESTON' style dune (easy out option) and several superb mx style jumps, handcrafted by the mx boys themselves.
The other loop where Boss and Pete excel is the huge Beach enduro loop, where we are sure the ride 'as much as you like' format will prove a hit with all riders and abilities. The event is open to both mx and enduro riders of solos ,quads and sidecars-the adult solo tracks will be kept seperate and swapped at lunchtime on both days with the quads also having their own track(friends on solos can however ride with the quads if desired) and also coming into play will be an equally impressive kids and dads track(KADS) which proves so popular at the Enduroland events throughout the year.Rider camping and parking is located right next to the beach on the promenade and the beach owners are even opening there superb JOES BEACH BAR on thursday 29th December for an indoor beach party.
This must be the 'FIRST' beach/sand event of this kind in the UK and if successful will become a regular event on the calendar at Ingoldmells Nr Skegness.
Adult two day beach bum rider pass just £50!

Menith Wood Motoduro
Sunday 23rd October saw the final round of the combinde Moto-Duro Championship between the Stourbridge MXC and the Blackheath Auto Sports Club, At the very popular Menith Wood circuit. With a good turn out the riders were treated to a 5 plus minute lap with flat out straights, some good climbs and wooded sections plus a moto cross track and to add spice the stour boys and girls had a log section over the finishing line, which caught a few of the tired and weary out.

At 11:20 due to the ambulance getting lost, riders went to their respective lines, a good line up of experts and seniors and a double line up of clubman lined up with dead engines, 11:30 up went the flag, Lee Green, Lee Kelly with lighting reflexes shot off, Kelly wasn`t
having any of it and soon took Green for the lead only to pull a good strong lead on his KTM, number 160 Tom Crump came up behind the two KTM riders Green and Kelly.

Green made a mistake and stalled Crump not one
to hesitate soon took over the silenced KTM, soon his KTM was breathing down Kelly`s neck a couple of laps later and he had the lead only to stall his KTM in the same spot as Green, back in the lead Kelly was on a charge but hard charging Crump wasn`t in the mood he
rode out of his skin.

Kelly then made a mistake and Crump was back on top down went his head and boy did he move, he pulled a brilliant lead but with two laps to go Kelly had other ideas of how this hour race should end only to push Crump to the flag. absolutely fantastic riding by these two riders Green a good third. The second leg again it was Green and Kelly but Crump was way down, Kelly was on a charge to the finish with Green in second. Overall went to Kelly 2nd Green 3rd Jason Hicken. The Seniors were next up with Katie Walker taking two whole shots on her emaculate turned out KTM, with super smooth riding style 1st overall with back to back 1st Katie was taking riders everywhere well inot the experts pack, 2nd went to Chris Gaunt 3rd to James Earl. The Clubman class saw Luke Redman take the win with a 1st and 2nd, thomas Hibberd 2nd, Stephen Totney 3rd overall. It must be mentioned fantastic day with a superb track laid out by the handful of riders and their family`s. Results for the Championship will be out soon.
Thanks to everyone who helped and to the farmer for letting us use his land. Results
Wyre Forest Off Road IOPD MUDIE BOND Junior British Enduro Championship Final Rounds....
The Wyre Forest off road team yet again built a track that would test rider & machine. The weather had been kind all week making riding conditions almost perfect, Although this was the second visit to Eastern Parks farm in Ashby De-la Zouche for the British Championship rounds, A completely different part of the estate was used making it a new track for all championship riders, The track consisted of technical woodland, fast mx sections, Easy & hard routes for the more advanced rider & two boggy areas.
Race 1 on Saturday saw the very competitive 65cc & auto 50cc riders do battle on the full course as the older riders would use, Back from his recent tour on the Redbull National scene the ever dominant Archie Hicks soon made his way to the front of the pack on his Cobra sponsored bike but Copper top Racer Joseph Davies was determined not to let Archie out of his sight and pushed him all the way to the finish but had to settle for 2nd place as Hicks took the win with William Criq close behind in 3rd, Archie was set to make it the double on day 2 but didn't get a great start but pushed up to lead with Joseph Davies sat on his back wheel until Davies hit a dust burm to hard and flipped the bike giving Hicks a big enough lead to take a toilet break during refuelling and still take the win, Davies had to settle for another 2nd place with Jed Sawyer in 3rd, Rider of the day has to go to Frankie White Edwards who battled with Dominic Arnold all race to take his first podium finish of the championship & finish 4th with Arnold 5th.
All the clubs static & rolling marshalls waited in the 2 bogs to help the small wheeled 50cc bikes through the tough bog section but as usual they proved why they are the best in the country and made short work of both bogs opting to use the faster hard route over the easy route. Sam Davies Dominated doth days taking both wins even after riding 4 laps with a puncture in the rear wheel on day 2, Roman Skinner put in two superb performances to finish second both days & Connor Downes 3rd both days.
Race 2 on Sat was for the older solo riders, As most of the Championship overall positions were already secured a few riders opted to change classes getting bike time on their bigger bikes ready for the Winter Series, Adam James being one of then after winning overall in the 85cc over 13yrs class he chose to race in the Clubman solo class & insisted he was out for a bit of fun & no pressure racing, yer right !!, just goes to show you just cant trust anyone, James has now put a big target on his back by winning both races & also giving race officials a dilemma as his performance really puts him in the Expert class for 2012 but with it being is first year moving into the bigger engine class some negotiation will have to take place, the very talented Katie Walker may have to get used to looking at Adams back who will also be moving into the Expert class for 2012 but will give everyone in that class a run for their money. Walker went into race one on Saturday 6 points behind Championship leader Josh Aughterlony but Josh made a few mistakes & crashed leaving Katie to finish 2nd & Josh 5th putting then both on equal points going into Sundays racing, Katie would take a second 2nd place over Josh's 3rd place making her the new 2012 Clubman solo class Champion, Jack Denning-James finished 3rd on Saturday, Jacod Bowden had a successful weekend finishing 4th both days. Expert riders Andy Bull & Ash Mullett-Bowden both had 1st & 2nd Places each over the weekend.
Young Harry Aughterlony Smashed the 85cc 13yr & over class winning both days & finishing 3rd & 4th overall in the races, another name to watch out for, Another up & coming star is Luke Rudd finishing 2nd both days & very respectful overall finishes, Matt Leedham finished 3rd Sat with Hannah Murray 3rd Sunday. Antoine Criq took his usual position at the front to take the win on Saturday with Brad Sullivan a close 2nd & Dean Edwards 3rd. Sullivan found some extra pace for Sunday finishing 4 minutes faster than the previous day to win with Jack Law in 2nd also with a rocket under him finishing in a time that would of won day 1, Dean Edwards also must of eaten 3 Shredded wheat to finish 3rd again but completing a lap more than the day before.
The Quad race was to be some of the best racing seen all year with the experts all racing wheel to wheel both days from start to finish, Championship Winner Jamie Morgan took the win for Saturday but was given a 3 min penalty just for fun on day 2 to see how he would fair from the back, he quickly moved through the field but suffered a few mechanicle problems & DNF'd on 10 laps, Kyle Hawkes finished 2nd on Sat Just 24 seconds behind Morgan but had to settle for 3rd Sunday, Jack Godfrey received a 3rd & 2nd Places over the weekend, But Dexter Langford plagued all year with mechanicle problems Dominated the Experts on Sundays taking the win a full 1.5 mins ahead of 2nd place.
The Yardley brothers Henry & George finished 1st & 2nd with Alfie Weyman 3rd in the Auto Quad under 10yrs, Iestyn Rowlands took the win from Jamie Bone who finished 2nd on Saturday with Tom Chell in 3rd. Sunday saw Bone & Rowlands going into the final race of the championship on equal points but Iestyn was to be overall victor finishing 2nd with Bone down in 4th after mechanicle problems Tom Chell took a well deserved Win on the day with Calum Owen in 3rd.
Wyre Forest Off Road would like to take this opportunity to thank all the marshalls & sponsors that have Helped to make the 2011 Junior British Enduro Championship such a success, Also a massive well done to all the riders that have supported the Championship.

To meet the current level of international motorcycle offroad sports, race promotor Karl Katoch has decided to update the race regulations of the respective race formats for 2012. The Erzbergrodeo offers three different race formats over the four days of the festival: Rocket Ride, Generali Iron Road Prologue and Red Bull Hare Scramble.
“The step-for-step accommodation of our race formats to the ever growing demands of our participants is a very crucial concern for us. Racing at Erzbergrodeo has to provide a maximum ammount of fun to our riders, without sacrifying any parts of the selective and demanding characteristic of the event.",
Katoch says about his reasons for the change of regulations - which are as follows:
Rocket Ride 2012: higher and further!
Within the past three years, the Rocket Ride uphill race has already become a true highlight for racers and spectators. It's all about full throttle from start to finish at the mighty uphill sections right below the main rider paddock at Erzberg - only without any major risk for man and machinery. For 2012 the race will be enlarged by adding a fourth massive uphill to the 3-stories long racetrack, which makes for an outstanding, unique dimension in terms of height and length. The Rocket Ride 2012 will be traditionally held on the Erzbergrodeo's first day of action (Thursday, June 7th) and is limited to a total ammount of 300 participants.
Generali Iron Road Prologue 2012: new track markers!
The Generali Iron Road Prologue, the spectaculous high-speed dirtbike race to the Erzberg's summit, will be upgraded with new track markers alongside the 14 kilometers long gravel racetrack. These track markers will be controlled by marshalls and are similar to the gates in alpine ski racing: each rider has to make sure to pass all the gates on his way to the finish line. This new regulation shall prevent any ambitions to short-cut the Prologue's racetrack.
“To be really fast on the up to 30 meters wide racetrack you have to find the perfect line through the many corners. To carry your speed from the straights into the hairpins is absolutely crucial to gain valueable time on your opponents. In most of the cases, shortcutting will even result in a loss of time.", Karl Katoch explains. With 1800 participants from 37 nations and 5 continents, the Generali Iron Road Prologue is regarded as the world's biggest and most spectacular motorcycle offroad race.
Red Bull Hare Scramble 2012: easier, faster, longer!
After increasing the ammount of checkpoints from 15 to 20 in 2010, the track layout of the world's toughest single day Xtreme Enduro will be once again modified in 2012. “We will extend the Hare Scramble 2012 racetrack distinctively - but we'll also add some easier and faster sections to the race. Over the past few years, the true highlight of the Erzbergrodeo has developed towards a rather extreme trials-style characteristic. The changes in track design will redirect this evolution towards a more Enduro-like characteristic. But don't worry - the Red Bull Hare Scramble will remain a quite mean thing to handle, and it will still take competitors to their limits!", Erzbergrodeo-Mastermind Karl Katoch describes the new track design. As of now, the 500 participants of the unique event had to tackle the extremely tough 25 kilometer long racetrack within a maximum time of four hours.
Another change of regulations affects the Red Bull Hare Scramble's NoHelp zones. Within these particular sections of the track, riders are not allowed to recieve any help from spectators or crew members - they are only eligible to help, pull or push a fellow rider. So far only 6 out of the 20 sections of the entire racetrack have been marked as NoHelp zones . This number will be drastically increased in 2012 as most parts of the racetrack will be turned into NoHelp sections - starting from checkpoint “Wasserleitung" all the way to the finish line inside the Erzbergrodeo Arena. Additionally, helping another rider will only be eligible if it's impossible to pass the competitor at the respective section.
The impressive uphill sections right after the start of the Red Bull Hare Scramble will remain untouched by these regulation modifications, so spectators can still pull their favourite riders up the massively steep ascents.

Erzbergrodeo XVIII presents spectacular and action-loaded Trials event!
In addition to the classic side events Freestyle-MX Show, Sturm auf Eisenerz and One-On-One Rider Presentation, the Erzbergrodeo will feature an all new Xtreme Trials event in 2012. “We want to present the highly fascinating Trials sports to a wide range of motorsports enthusiasts. Trials techniques have become an important basic for all Xtreme Enduro top contenders, so it's more than natural to present this amazing sports in front of the Erzbergrodeo crowd. The new side event will feature national Trials riders as well as international top-riders, offering superior entertainment to our spectators!", says Katoch.
To accommodate the new side event, the Erzbergrodeo Arena will be rearranged featuring a Xtreme Trials parcours right in front of the big festival marquee. More detailed informations are to follow soon.
