It was the day after a perfect day and there was a bit of a relaxed atmosphere and with the track regraded and watered, it was all set for another good day's racing.
Practice
My hands were sore from yesterday's racing, so I didn't know if I would be able to hold on for the duration of the races, but the track was still rough in places as the track's soil hadn't had chance to settle, but I was sure that it wouldn't get as rough as Sunday.
Race One
I didn't get the best of starts but used my head and by the first turn, I moved into second and then made the pass for the lead along the up hill drag. I pushed to gap the rest of the riders and then settled down but Nathan Phillips closed in on me, so I uped my pace to widen the gap again and took the race win.
Race Two
This time I got a great jump off the gate and pulled a good holeshot. I aonce gain set a good pace to gap the other MX2 riders and over the race period had a good 20 seconds lead over Phillips and took another race win. |

|
Race Three
The weather had started to rain before the start of the last race, so I knew a good start and a focused head was needed as the track was becoming very slippery on the hard parts of the circuit. I got another great start but on the one corner I lost the rear end of the bike on the slippery part which made me go wide, so Phillips capitalised on my mistake and I lost the lead.
I continued to push Phillips and I hit a rock which gave me a rear wheel puncture so I made the pass on Phillips and rode the loose dirt lines to get the grip off the back wheel to gap Phillips. There was still about 4 laps before the end of the race, I used my head and managed to keep everything together to take the win and the maximum overall.
It was a good end to a good weekend, and hopefully this is the turning point of my season.
A big Thank you to everyone helping and supporting the Marchantmx team, Feehillymx, Foto-x, Find Ur Stuff, Rogers Rescue, Fox (Europe), Fro systems,

AMCA MX2 Championships at
Hungry Hill Rd 3 |
The stage was set for the 3rd round of the AMCA Championship and IMBA Sidecar Championship. The expectations where high for this round as the last two have been cancelled due to dust problems, so Mick Penn got all the members, including myself, on Saturday night heavily watering the Hungry Hill circuit which I can still say is the best watering system set up in the country. The fireworks display was fantastic and everything was in place for Sunday's racing.
Practice/Qualifying
The track conditions were perfect with a number of options of lines around the corners. I continued to look for the right lines and then the qualifying board was shown so I went for it, but lost my front end on a tight right hand corner which wrecked that lap. I continued on for a few more laps but ,by the later part of the session, I was out in 41st so I pushed on and managed a lap that put me into 33rd fastest. There was a little problem with the bike, so I told my mechanic (Dad) and he made a few changes ready for the races.
Race One
I got off the gate OK and managed to weave my way through in to the top 20, with Dobson, Pearce, Slesser and Halls just in front of me. I just pushed hard with them but on the second lap, on the tight left hand air pin corner, I applied too much front brake going in the corner and ended up on the ground. I kept the bike running but was now down in 31st position, so I continued to push through the race but could only get back into 26th position by the end of the race. |
|
Race Two
I got another OK start and was in the top 20 but the track was now very rough and line choice was getting very important, but the pace was still very fast. I got into a good rhythm and felt fast. I moved passed Yarranton and Neale moving into 19th position but a few laps from the end, I lost control of the bike in a very stoney right hand bend and went down again. I remounted in last and unfortunately that is where I finished. I felt very disappointed but my Dad encouraged me that there were some good positives in the race which I haven't been showing this year.
Race three
I felt down but not out and I lined up for the last race. I tangled with the rider next too me, so I had a red mist and I now had nothing to lose so I pushed past groups of riders and by the 5th corner I was up into 11th position behind Dobson, Pearce, Clitheroe and Taylor. I pushed my pace and followed for the better lines, but knowing I was in the best position I had been in all year, I knew I had to keep it together, so I continued to fight the rough and ready circuit. I made a few mistakes and Chris Hill managed to take me but I didn't panic and just continued on in 12th and waited for a mistake from him as he was riding on the limit. A few laps from the end Hill's bike cruised to a halt and I was back in 11th position and that's where I ended the race.
I ended the day in 22nd position overall but the last race has given me back the confidence I have lost this year so I can build on the last race result and try to work hard and get some top 10 results again and move up the standings table.
Wolverhampton club members and committee can be proud of all their efforts to put on the best meeting of the 2009 calender by far. |
|
Polesworth at Stipers Hill 17.05.09 |
The MarchantMx team made their way to the Polesworth circuit hosted by Polesworth MXC. The club had been working hard on the circuit from their last meeting, It looked really good, all the jumps had been re-shaped and soil added onto the circuit in parts and also some new features which all looked well thought out.
Practice
I rode around the new improved Polesworth circuit, it was fun to ride again and the conditions were perfect, but with heavy rain during the practice sessions, the track was starting to get slippery in places but I just continued around to get some good lines ready for the races.
Race one
I got a good jump off the gate and was in the top 3 going into the first turn but Del Busso came up the inside of me and pushed me into Slesser. I managed to stay on the bike but was now in 7th position. I tried to push past riders but the track conditions were quite a bit more slippery then in practise.
It was hard work being behind riders and I was losing time keep having to clear my vision from the mud, but on the second lap, while I was clearing my vision, I hit a hole which sent me and the bike endowing into the tracks banking and I ended underneath the bike and fuel running all over my leg. I quickly pushed the bike from off me and refitted the fuel cap but my leg was starting to burn so I quickly rode back to the van with a very twisted KTM.
I didn't continue to race for the rest of the day as the burn to my leg was quite sore and the bike's sub-frame was also twisted and required repair. I was disappointed but felt I was making a good decision.
Next week is the 3rd round of the AMCA Championship hosted by my club Wolverhampton & District MXC, hopefully the weather will be on our side and make it the event of the year.
Remember I am running a Training day at J4M54 circuit on Thursday 28th May, email for more info. |
Burntwood at Branston 10.05.09 |
Team MarchantMX arrived at the Branston circuit, and me and Fat Tony went to have a look and check out the track conditions. The track had been well watered by the Burntwood Club so it was all set for a good days racing.
Practice
I rode my race bike just to try out some things, the track was quite slippery in places but lines were starting to develop and the normal Branston bumps were starting to appear, I got a good feel for the track and felt I had a comfortable pace.
|
|
Race One
I didn't get the best of jumps off the gate but I made up a few places and was in fourth position behind Del Busso, Halls and Slesser. I made a big mistake in the right hand sweeping turn just before the step up jump and when the dust settled, I was upside down in some bushes.
I re-mounted but was now a lap down but I continued on the race missing a front number plate and transponder. Thinking about the points system, I carried on the race thinking that I would at least pick up last man's points, the race ended.
I went to see if I had been awarded any points as I didn't have my transponder on my bike, I was awarded a big fat DNF but with about 50 witnesses seeing me cross the chequered flag.
With a lot of questions, I was finally given my points but felt that the problem should never have been a issue!. |
|
|
Race Two
To make matters worse my clutch went on the line, forcing me into the gate. I dug my front end out of the gate and raced after the pack. I picked through the riders and was in fourth but the clutch was causing me a few problems but I passed Paul Conway (tank) and with just one lap left I settled for third.
Race Three
Dad got the bike sorted and I got off to a better start and moved into the lead past Slesser. I pushed hard and continued to hold a good pace until 3/4 of the race but then I started to struggle with fatigue as my body still hadn't got over the virus I had got last week.
I gave the lead back to Slesser and was gutted but knew that I couldn't continue the fast pace,, but with a big gap between me and Halls who was in third, I finally finished in second position which was a good result to finish the day off with.
I finished in 6th position overall but it could have been a lot worse after the issue in the first race. It was a well run meeting by the Burntwood club and dust was kept to a minimum, not like some of the previous meetings that I have raced this year.
Thank you to every one supporting the MarchantMX team, the confidence is starting to grow again.
REMEMBER, I have a Training Day which includes a bike set up by MTR Motocross on Thursday 28th May at J4M54. Email me for more info.

AMCA MX2 Championships at Bevercotes Rd 2
|
I was looking forward to this weekend's racing at Ollerton, the 2nd Round of the AMCA Championship. I had been training hard through the week but on early Friday morning I had to spend a lot of time in the bathroom, which continued through all day Friday, having picked up a stomach virus, this caused me a problem through Sunday's racing. We arrived at a well prepared Ollerton circuit, after last week's disasters at Culham, I was just going to do my very best and pick up some points.
Practice/Qualifying
The track was starting to dry very quickly and dust was starting to rise. The track was as fast as normal with some added twists and turns to try to slow the pace down. I decided to change on to the other bike as it was set up slightly differently and I ended qualifying in 27th position.
Race One
The track was now very dusty so a good start was essential but I didn't get the best of jumps, as Del Busso jumped the gate which caused me and Dan Hill problems. I tried to push hard through the riders but the dust was like fog and by lap 3, I had moved up to 17th behind Slesser, but I became very de-hydrated and my breathing became a problem and I lost time and places just trying to get to the end of the race. I finally finished back in 24th position.
Race two
I finally recovered from race one and my Dad (Bob) made me a water bottle so I could get some fluids whilst I was riding. I got a better jump out of the gate but was blocked out in the first turn, the dust was dangerous and I had to take it steady trying to struggle through the dust which was drying my throat badly. Even with the water, I started to fatigue and fall back. I tried to fight back and managed to move back into 26th position by the end of the race.
The meeting was cancelled due to the dust by the stewards and I can say it was a good call as the only way I knew when to turn for the corners was the helmet of the rider in front. I now have a few weeks to get myself back 100% fit and turn this season around for me, the team and my sponsors.
Many thanks to everyone involved in the MarchantMx team and my supporters it has been a bit of a rough couple of weeks, so I will see you all at Branston hosted by the Bruntwood Club.

AMCA MX2 Championships at Culham Rd 1
Pic by Mike Wood |
It was the start of the first AMCA Championship at Culham. We arrived at the track and I took a look at it with Dan Hill. It had changed from the last time I had raced here, but even though the track had been watered, it was still very dry under cover. With blue sky and sun however, it was going to be hard to keep the dust at bay.
Practice/Qualifying
knowing the track well, I was going to need an early qualifying lap before the track deteriorated. I felt good on the bike and just looked for lines ready for the qualifying session. The board came out and I went for it, but on a right hand bend I lost my front end and went down.I quickly remounted to continue but again on the second lap, I lost the rear end in a berm but luckily stopped on the machine. I eventually got in an ok lap, but was down in 31st and a little disappointed.
Race one
I didn't get a good drive out of the gate and was buried in the pack but managed to get through the first few turns and pushed hard to work my way up the order. By lap four, I had moved into 21st but the bike wasn't quite right and I pulled in to talk to my dad. I DNF'd the race to try to and get the MarchantMx KTM back right for the second race.
Race two
My Dad (Bob), sorted the bike, but the track was now rough and very dusty. We lined up again for the second race. I got a good jump and by the first few turns I was well in the top 15 and I was pushing hard, but on lap three the race was red flagged because of the dust! This has got to be the first time in my racing days that this had ever been done.
The organisers got some water down and the race was postponed and then re-started after a support race. I got a good start again but tangled with Lee Payne in a left hand turn and ended up on the ground again! I remounted dead last with a mountain to climb but I never give up, and lap after lap I started to catch up the back of the tail of riders. I started to push the riders in front of me but the race was stopped due to a incident with 68 Paul Neale, 74 Rob Clitheroe and 10 Jack Taylor. The race was left to stand and points YES! points awarded to all the riders involved in the cause of the red flag! But there must be a different AMCA rule book for some riders.
Race three
I had a bad jump off the gate and in the first I ran into the back of a rider and I was down again but I quickly re-mounted and, with the bike still running, I was able to catch back up with the riders. I moved up the order lap after lap but it was hard to find the right passing lines due to the track condition and vision was poor due to the dust but by the end of the race I got into 25th position.
It was a big disappointment of a day which ended with me down in 34th position, but it is a long season and I am going to work hard to get the results I need.
Thank You to everyone for supporting and helping the MarchantMx team. Bring on next week, 2nd Round AMCA Championship at Ollerton. |
Practicing at J4M54 |
This week I decided to go practiCing over J4M54. Lee has been working hard on the circuit and made a few changes. Wit h the group meeting at Airfield Farm also a practice track, I thought it was better to pay and ride all day than three short races.
Also with the first AMCA Championship meeting next week, I could get some quality testing testing time on the bike.
It was quite busy in the adult sessions but I put into practice looking for new lines to pass the slower rider as if they were back markers. I posted some good times and had good four 20 minutes sessions.
The bike was feeling good and I was happy with my riding, as over the past couple of weeks, I have lost a bit of aggression on the bike but riding the 450f machine last week made the 250f a bit like a toy.
Overall the day was successful and I can't wait for next week at Culham and hopefully I can make 2009 a successful one for me and my sponsors. So check back next week to see how I got on. |

Cheltenham at Brookthorpe 12.04.09
|
|
This week I borrowed a Ktm 450 off Nick Dawson from Rogers Rescue. I managed to get a little time over J4M54 thanks to Lee Jones (owner) and Charlie Hollis, but when the rain came I called it a day, with a few tweaks to be made to the bike ready for the racing on Sunday.
Sunday was here and with a few detours we finally found the Brookthorpe circuit. I have seen it many times when I have been driving back up the M5 but have never raced on it. The track had been well prepared, watered well and lots and lots of jumps.
Practice
Riding around the circuit it was very hard to dial it in as some of the circuit looked the same but with doubles, triples and step ups to contend with. On about the fourth lap, I managed to get everything together and then the session was over.
Race One
I had mainly been concentrating on getting used to the bike and forgot about maybe doing some practice starts, so my start was Rubbish! I was finding it hard to tame the beast inside the motor and by the time I got the front wheel back on the ground, I was about last going into the first turn, but I followed the precession of riders over jump after jump. Some riders made mistakes and I started to push forward but on a right hand bend I think I got a bit excited with the throttle and came into the turn to hot and too much front brake and I had a close inspection of the ground. I quickly re-mounted but I was last and with a big gap to catch up, but I kept plugging away lap after lap and managed to catch and pass some riders but the race came to a end. I was happy with my effort but felt slow in places but knew over the day I would be able to get faster.
Race Two
Again I didn't get off to the best of starts but I just continued to push but It was hard to pass as everyone was doing the same jumps and you just couldn't make up time. I managed to get myself in 15th position by the halfway point of the race with Jamie Dobson, Steve Bailey and Carl Benjamin just in front of me but the gap between us didn't change so I just continued to keep everything together and finally finished in 15th position. I felt that I was a little quicker than the first ride but still wasn't fast enough.
Race Three
I got a little better start but tangled with Lee Dunham's rear wheel and nearly went down but I managed to save it but was now close to the back of the pack. I tried to get past riders but It was hard and had to wait for the right time and with a fallen Jamie Powell was now hot on my heels. I managed to keep him behind for about 3 laps but I had a bit of a break and managed to pass a few riders but I made a big mistake coming into a chicane corner jump section and over rear braked which caused the back end of the bike to slide out so I quickly released the brake but I was just sent straight into the posts and ropes. I re-mounted and got back on the circuit and continued round the circuit and after the a few laps the race was over.
On the whole I enjoyed having the chance to race on the Ktm 450. I didn't set the world a light but got a good satisfaction that with only a limited amount of time on the bike I wasn't too far of the pace. So I will say a big THANKS to Nick for the loan of the bike, also to Lee Jones at J4M54 and to my dad for sorting out the bike.

Burton at Mallory Park 05.04.09 |
It was a bit of a disappointment driving to the Mallory Park circuit hosted by Burton MXC, everyone had been told that the track was going to be different the practice track but including some of the GP track. That was total BULL S***T! It was just the practice track and the track wasn't even graded for Sunday's racing, just watering on top of the rock hard surface.
Practice
The track was like an ice skating rink in places and the only place that you could get on the power was a wood chipped straight, A BIG JOKE!
Race One
With the track being very one lined, a good start was essential. I got off to the start that I wanted and filtered into second behind Del Busso. I just watched his lines but I went wide around a big sweeping right hand turn and gave Ryan Morris just enough room for him to slip through on the inside, but I felt the bike not working right and fighting with the rear end which could only mean one thing a puncture. I tried to keep the bike upright and continued, but the track was dangerous enough without riding with a puncture, so I pulled of the track and back to the van.
Race Two
The bike was all back to normal as I lined up behind the start gate, but I spun up on the line and by the time I got to the first turn, I was well down in the top 10. I tried to make a pass on the battling group of riders but nearly loosing the rear of my MarchantMx KTM machine, I decided to just cruise around and play it safe. With the first AMCA championship just a few weeks away, I had to put my priorities first.
Race Three
I just wanted to get this race over. I got off to another good start and was in second again behind the fast starting Del Busso. I raced to keep Dan Hill and Morris at bay for a good half race distance but felt that being my fellow Wolverhampton rider Morris had won the last two races, I thought I would let him and Hill past to chase down Del Busso and I just continued to ride around behind the three of them and finished the race in 4th position .
The day was probably the worst day's riding due to the track and the organising club. I am just glad that me and the other riders all went home in one piece as I think that the track was DANGEROUS! and shouldn't have been able to have run the meeting. It is a practice track and why do clubs still think that they can run a race meeting on it. IT'S A PRACTICE TRACK!
There was some good racing but it was on the A5 between my dad and Lee Bayley but with Bayley's new water tanks gave him the edge on the weight loss distribution managed a boy racer overtake passing us a car in front then put the yellow bus into a gap that was just big enough. He has still got a race in him for a old'en! |

Charnock at Whittle Mill Farm 29.03.09
Pic by Mike Wood |
The MarchantMx team travelled up to the Charnock Richard circuit after a little diversion, as the post code given by the AMCA office on the entry tickets was incorrect (not surprised!). We finally found the only sign to the circuit and was towed on to the paddock.
Fat Tony (my dog) and me went over to see what the track was like. With a long grass start, up and down hills and long straights, it was definetely a horse power track, also with some added deep boggy corners just to make it a little bit more harder for the MX2 bikes. |
Practice
With only 26 riders entered the timed practice was just for peg position. It was a big struggle with power and grip on the MarchantMx machine as my thoughts on the track were right. I ended the session in 18th position with a bunch of other MX2 championship riders, clearly an MX2 bike wasn't going to be competitive on this circuit.
Race One
I lined up on the start gate to the right, the gate dropped and we all zig zagged up the start straight and on entering the first turn out of the corner of my eye, riders started to fall like dominos. Before I could react, I had Dufeu's Kawasaki sideways in my path. I smashed into it and did a superman over the bars, landing on my head and right shoulder.
I got back on my feet and tried to shrug the pain off my shoulder and re-mounted onto the Marchantmx KTM but on route around the circuit, I was struggling to hold on and went down again in a right-hand rut but the race was red flagged and re-started.
I got off to a rubbish start and gingerly got around the first turn and then started to pass riders but I was struggling and started to drop back and I decided to pull out of the race. |
|
|
This was to be the end of my days racing and, with a long season ahead of me, I decided to not ride in pain. The whole meeting was a bit of a joke, to say the AMCA hosted the meeting, there wasn't much effort with the circuit but instead their priorities were the flags and banners and also the hire of a DJ to play music out of his Citroen Berlingo like the boy racer down the Merry Hill at the start of every race, but no one though to get a digger in action on the boggy corners. instead there was a strong smell of burning clutches all day.
Good work AMCA! (thank god they aren't hosting any of the championships!).
A big thank you to everyone supporting and involved in the Marchantmx team and also to my Dad for all of his effort with the bikes. |

Walsall at Hobs Hole 22.03.09 |
I was looking forward to this weekend as first, I received my brand new Fox racing kit from Feehilymx and second, after last week I was hoping for a bit better luck and getting some good results under my belt.
I arrived at the Hobs Hole circuit ,it looked really good with a new banked berm and an introduction to wood chipping used to mix in with the soil, so I was interested as I have never raced on a wood chip surface.
Practice
I decided to go out in the first expert practice, after a few laps of the new look Hobs Hole circuit the track was good and flowing, which the track always lacked before. I put in a few fast laps but made a mistake in the far sand corner and one rider in particular found it highly amusing (Brandrick!) but remounted and ended the session.
Race One
I lined up on the start line just hoping for a good start as the only bad bit of the circuit is the start, it is very tight and off-cambered just to add to difficulty but I managed to get a good drop and was inside the top three but made a mistake with my line choice and Pete Weaver slipped passed me. I pushed hard and mid race through me and Weaver had a big coming together over the big ski jump as our lines crossed in the air. I managed to get away without crashing but unfortunatly Weaver didnt. I continued on in the race but I had damaged the bike in the incident but managed to pick up 3rd position at the end of the race behind Ryan Morris and John Slesser. I was sorry for Pete Weaver as it was a racing incident but we can only be both happy we walked away and continued to race through the day.
Race Two
I didn't get off the gate well at all and struggled through the race lap after lap trying to pass Chris Hill and Weaver but the bike was hard to change gear and sometimes wouldn't, but I still managed to pass them both after the second time through the race to finish eventually in 4th position behind Chad Yarranton, Morris and Slesser. I wasn't too happy with the result but I just had to make the most of the situation and hope for a better start in race 3.
Race Three
My Dad and me decided that I would ride the championship bike for the last race. The gate dropped and I un-leashed the beast and managed to get into the top 3. With Morris and Slesser just in front, I started to lay on the pressure to Morris, and my plan worked and he made a big mistake in a left hander and I was now in 2nd position. I kept Slesser in my sights and had a look behind to see what the situation was and saw a big gap between me and Yarranton in 3rd, so I just kept it all together and settled for 2nd position but on the last lap a mistake by Slesser saw me take over the lead and finally took the chequered flag in 1st position. I was smiling from ear to ear exactly what I wanted to end the day.
By my suprise I ended the day 1st overall as Morris and Slesser couldn't recover from their problems, but a win is a win and with consistent results saw me 10 points clear at the top. The new Fox kit must given me a change of luck and hope I can continue my winning ways through the season. Also Walsall MXC should be proud of the way the meeting was a success and hopefully they can sort the first turn out for the next meeting as this was the only down side to the day.
Many Thanks to everyone behind the Marchantmx team and wish my mom a happy Mother's Day. |

Bridgnorth at Dunston 15.03.09 |
The week leading up to this event had been a bit of a rollacoaster ride. It all started late on Sunday night when Becki's horse Jodocus had an allergic reaction to something in the hay that he was eating, causing a vet to be called out to him. Thankfully, with a little medical attention, he was stable but swollen up like the elephant man. Then Monday morning our little dog Stitches was acting strange and later that day popped out three puppies. Unfortunately two of them died but the one boy puppy is fit and strong. On Tuesday Becki lost her uncle to a Heart attack, so as far as shit weeks go, I can say safely say we just had one.
I turned up at the Dunston circuit, hosted by the Bridgnorth MXC, and the track was the biggest load of shit that I had ever seen. It was as hard as the A449 road and had more yes MORE! stones then Polesworth. I decided that since I was there, I would get ready for practice. |
|
|
Practice
I rode around the circuit, it was slippy and very dry but if any water was put onto the track it would have been like a cross between an
episode of dancing on ice and you've been framed! I continued around the track to see what pace I had in me for the days racing.
Race one
I decided not to get out the supermoto wheels yet! and lined up onto the start gate. I got off to a good start but the dodgy first turn caused me to get pushed wide and nearly out of the circuit but I kept it on two wheels and continued to push on in 5th position with Dobson, Chamberlian, Weaver and White in front of me. I set to work on them, I passed White and when putting pressure on Weaver a half house brick was shot into my path picking the front wheel up and forcing me to the ground. I re-mounted back into the top 10 and now with no skin on my elbow, I pushed hard behind Yarranton to be back into the top 5. After a few lap battle with Yarranton, I continued on to pass White and closed in on Del Busso but when behind Yarranton, a rock smashed my right thumb which was causing me trouble to hold on the the handlebars. I finished the race in 7th position with a glove full of blood and a sore elbow.
Race Two
I patched myself up and got off to a good start with Weaver, Chamberlian and Dobson in front of me. I pushed hard to keep up the fast pace, through the race I managed to pass Chamberlain and a few laps from the end I made a pass on Weaver moving me into 2nd behind Dobson but with about a 5 second gap, I continued to keep Dobson in my sights but had to settle for 2nd position. Picking up another injury to my knee that I had caught on a post thank god for knee braces! |
|
Picture (right) by Rachel Swales.
Race Three
With me feeling like I had been in an England rugby scrum, I just wanted the day to be over. I shot out of the gate but got closed in on the first corner and emerged in 6th position behind Tom Neesam. I passed Tom and started to close the gap on Chamberlain, Halls and Pearce but with the track now having as much rubble as a tip coming up out of the ground, I made the decision to cut my losses and settle for 5th position. Finding it hard to hold on, and with a long season in front of me, I ended the race.
I am deeply disappointed in the Bridgnorth MXC. The track was RUBBISH! and with a year that everyone is struggling to keeping racing due to the credit crunch we deserved better.
On the whole I finished 3rd Overall behind Chamberlain and Dobson, but I was just happy to get this week over.
|
|
|
I would just like to say a big thanks to every behind supporting me and the Marchantmx team and hopefully I can start to put some wins together.
Rest In Peace Peter Pearce. |

Polesworth at Stipers Hill 08.03.09 |
It was time of the first meeting of the South Staffordshire Group, which was hosted by the Polesworth MXC at Polesworth.
With heavy overnight rain, the track had some hidden boggy places but with sleet and shower weather warning through the day, it was going to be a gamble.
Practice
The track was as I thought, boggy over the rear part with some deep boggy places after the jumps, but with the wind blowing across the track it would soon dry up. I got a bit of a clear track so I had a couple of clear laps to get some lines together for the races.
Race One
I was all set, lined up on the start gate but with the start gate about to drop the bike cut out and I was left abandoned on the line. I tried to start the Marchantmx KTM but felt it wasn't going to start.
I pushed it back to the van and, after quick work from my Dad, I joined the race on my race bike but with only a couple of laps remaining. I just passed who was in front of me till the end of the race ending up in 24th position (last place).

Race Two
With the fault with the bike found, I lined up again but this time I was off with everyone. I managed by the first lap to get into 3rd position behind Dale Halls and John Slesser. I pushed hard to close the gap on Halls but seemed to making little mistakes which was loosing me time. I managed to get in a couple of laps mistake free and closed in on him. I showed Halls the front wheel in a few corners and then Halls made a mistake which allowed me the chance and I took it to move into 2nd position and just had to keep it together for the next few laps and took the chequered flag in 2nd position. I was happy with the come back from race one problems.
Race Three
It was the last race of the day and with nothing to loose, I shot out of the gate and was in 3rd position behind Del Busso and Slesser. I quickly passed Del Busso and my sights were on Slesser. Lap after lap I was matching Slesser but I just couldn't quite to close the gap and with Halls breathing down my neck, I was having to also protect myself. I made a big mistake over the back end of the circuit table top and with the sun setting it made it a blind vision on entry to the jump. I got cross rutted, jarring my thumb and was now in a lot of pain and feeling every bump on the circuit. It was now the last lap but nearly unable to hold on to the throttle, Halls made a pass and pushed me down into 3rd position, so I just got around the lap to take the chequered flag.
Overall the day turned around and I ended up in 5th position overall, so I can take a lot of plusses from the meeting and see what next week brings.
Thank you to everyone behind the Marchantmx team and also to my Dad for all his work. |
