2009 Results.........
UPDATE
14th October 2009
The 2009 season for me is now over as on Friday I was told that my injuries sustained at the last round of the AMCA Championship were worse than first check up and I am now recovering from a fractured right shoulder blade, fracture bone in left hand and have dislocated my right collarbone. I have decided to not ride now till 2010 to make sure I can make a full recovery ready for the new MX season.

Thank you to all of the hints and support through the season and also I have a lot of people to thank who have sponsored me and the MarchantMx team in 2009.

The 2010 season will be all different as I am moving up into the MX1 AMCA Championship and also I am considering on doing all the British Masters rounds.
The MarchantMx team will included a very talented 11 year old schoolboy rider Jordan Pyne who will be covering all of the Schoolboy and some selected AMCA events through the 2010 season.

2010 will include new visions and goals which hopefully will lead us to success for the team and our sponsors.

AMCA Championships Rd 8, Mid Cheshire at Norley
4th October 2009
It was the last AMCA Championship of the year and also the last time on the Marchantmx KTM 250f. We were joined this weekend by Rich Tudor, so everything was set up for a good one, and with a lot of attention on the MX1 boys, with only a handful of points separating the top 4 riders, a lot was at stake.

Qualifying
The track had undergone some more changes for this event but I have to say it wasn't watered enough and the dust was already filling our field of vision. I managed to get an ok time in lap one which I couldn't improve through the session, giving me 23rd fastest but knowing with a few changes to the bike, I could improve for the racing.

Race One
With the changes made to the Marchantmx Ktm I lined up with the rest of the MX2 riders. I got a good drive into the first turn but as usual there was a lot of bumping around the next few turns and I was just inside of the top 20. I pushed with the riders in front of me but I lost my footing on a fast jump and slightly twisted my ankle but not willing to give up, I continued on but had dropped back in 21st position but by the end of the race I had recovered from my ankle injury but was still in the same disappointed position.

Race Two
Again I got a good jump out of the gate and was again inside the top 20 but then with the dust very heavy in the bermed corners, I rode into a nasty bump blind which caused me to loose the back end shooting me over the bars, head first into the face of the uphill. I rolled off the track and sat there with a numb shoulder and thumb thinking it's all over for 2009! I eventually walked back to the race van with me supporting my arm deeply disappointed.

That was the end of my day's racing, and a trip to the hospital confirmed very heavy muscle damage to my right shoulder and a badly bruised thumb, a very disappointing end to the 2009 Championship season.

A big THANK YOU has to go to all the Sponsors, supporters and my Family through the Championship season, and with a good showing on my Marchantmx Honda 450 the last couple of weeks, I just hope that I can make the 2010 Championship season more successful.
Burton at Stenson
27th September 2009
I have something to get off my chest this week, as for a couple weeks I have been public enemy number one by a couple of clubs, due to my opinions about their meetings. To the people that are involved, then all I have to say is that this is my Website and I can state my opinions about anything I want, and this website is for the people generally interested in me and the team, not for checking up on what I have said about the track and the meetings that they have just hosted.

Now with that out of the way, this is the race report at Stenson hosted by the Burton MXC. I arrived at the Stenson circuit and the first thing that I saw was the changes made to the circuit. The straight. in full view of the paddock, had six mounds of earth placed on to it so it was going to be good viewing through the day for the spectators. I set up next to Rich Tudor and Jason 'Reggie' Brandrick and got ready for the racing.

Practice
I struggled through the practice session trying to get to grips with the circuit with the ground and the section of bumps. So I finished the session with mixed feeling of the circuit, but hopefully the track would develop through the day.

Race One
I got off to a flying start but regrettably, no one elses gate dropped as quick, so the red flag was shown and as usual on the re-start I didn't get a very good start and was stuck behind Jack Bas and Rob Fox. I pushed hard and passed Jack Bas but I made a big mistake going over the berm but I managed to stay upright, so I re-entered the circuit and pushed on back after Bas and Fox. I managed to do the rhythm section to make up some ground on them but then I made a mistake again by stalling the MarchantMx Honda in the left hand turn. I quickly started the bike and pushed on and by the end of the race I had passed Bas to move into 4th position.

Race Two
I got off to another bad start but managed to get into 3rd position after a few laps but Hollis and Cannings were gone so I pushed as hard as I could but I wasn't able to stop the MarchantMx Honda due to the tyres now being very worn and I went down in a right hand turn. I re-mounted but I had lost a position to Rob Fox. I tried all through the rest of the race but the bike wasn't gripping in the turns so I settled down and finished in 4th position again.
Race Three

We sorted the MarchantMx Honda for the start of the race. I got off to a better start and moved past Reggie through the rhythm session and pushed on after Hollis and Cannings but the I saw Cannings pushing his machine and I was now in 2nd position.

I then again made my day a little harder and stalled the MarchantMx Honda in a right hand bend, it only took a few kicks before it fired back into action but by then both Reggie and Fox had slotted back in front of me. I again made passes on them both to take 2nd position.

I finished 3rd overall after Cannings misfortune but again I made today hard work by making small mistakes which cost me but I am back on the Ktm for the last time at the last AMCA Championship at Norley.

A big thank you to Vanessa Palmer for the pictures and also everyone supporting the MarchantMx team.
Cannock at Abbots Bromley
20th September 2009
It was MX1 time this weekend as the Marchantmx team arrived at Abbots Bromley hosted by Cannock MXC. I was looking forward to racing being back on the MarchantMx 450 Honda, the track had some new sand and waves included into the circuit and also with the heavy watering the track wasn't going to have a dust problem.

Practice
The Experts were the first practice session of the day so it was a muddy one, but knowing how the circuit develops, it made a good selection of lines around the course. I finished the practice session happy with the track and ready for the day's racing.

Race One
I didn't get off to the best of starts and was buried in the MX1 pack, but I set to work and pushed hard to get past the riders in front of me but I went into a left hand corner a little too fast and lost the front end and went down. I quickly remounted the MarchantMx Honda and continued on, I passed the riders again and closed in on the Bennett brothers who where in 3rd and 4th position but it was now at the later stages of the race and I had just ran out of time, ending the race in 5th position.

Race Two
I managed to get a worse start then the first race and was starting to make my day hard work for myself but again I plugged away to move up through the positions again. I finally closed in on the Bennett brother's, I managed to make a pass on Addy but with only one lap to catch and pass Darren, I got close but couldn't quite get the job done and had to settle for 4th position at the end of the race.

Race Three
I managed to sort everything out and got off to a flying start and slotted into 4th behind Darren Bennett. I made a pass on him going into a left hand turn on the far corner of the circuit but again this wasn't to be and lost the front end of the MarchantMx Honda biting the dust again. I picked up the bike quickly and nearly knocked Jason (Reggie) Brandrick off his bike which caused a bit of mayhem in the turn but I got back on and charged on. By mid way point I had moved into 5th position again behind Addy and Darren Bennett but a little luck saw Addy drop it in the same corner as I had and I slipped on through into 4th position. There was a big 10 second gap between me and Darren so I pushed on to close in on him but again time stopped play and finished in 4th position again.

I finished 4th position overall but I feel I made my day a lot harder than it should have been but I guess sometimes you have to deal with the situations thrown at you but I showed good pace and there is always next week, so I will see you all at Stenson. Also a big thanks to Vanessa Palmer for the pictures.

Thank you to the sponsors and supporters of MarchantMx.

AMCA Championships Rd 7, Hereford at Walterstone
13th September 2009, Pic by Mike Wood
I arrived at the Walterstone circuit which was the 7th round of the AMCA Championship hosted by the Hereford MX Club. The track had undergone a major make over from the last meeting that I attended earlier this year. It was now being run the opposite way with a few more obstacles, so it was going to take a bit of getting used to but everyone was in the same frame of mind.

Practice/ Qualifying
It took a few laps to get my head around the circuit but the jumps were very dodgey and the track didn't quite flow as good as the other direction but I set off on a timed lap for qualifying. I got a good enough lap in to be 12th fastest, but I continued to look for new lines as the track started to develop and by the end of qualifying, I was 20th fastest, so I was ready for the racing ahead.

Race One
The start of the race was postponed due to an incident during the race before the MX2 Championship so eventually the race was started. I had a mid pack start so I set to work to make up some places but on a freshly watered down hill I lost control of the Marchantmx Ktm and hit the ground hard.
I re-mounted but my leg was dead and I struggled to use it properly and I fell down again. I continued through the race and finally finished in 32nd and in pain but the show must go on.

Race Two
I got off to a great start and was just outside the top 10, so I pushed really hard but on the landing off the jumps it was like someone was stamping on my leg. I dropped back into the pack but I continued to try to use all the track to my advantage but by the end of the 18 minutes, I was in 16th position.

Race Three
I had a good gate again and had full vision of the first turn that was until Dobson came across me. I managed to keep it on two wheels but I had lost valuable places and I was now inside the top 15 and pushing hard again as I knew that the middle to end of the race was going to be hard with my leg. I moved into 14th position and was feeling that my pace was good but then in the middle of the race I hit a brick on the take off on an up hill jump which sent me nose diving and ramming my body into the bike. I knocked my family Jewels into my stomach and wrenched my leg again. I had to ride very slow to regroup myself and my body and continued on, I had lost lots of places through the incident but I kept it all together till the end to salvage a 19th position.

It had been a painful and long day and didn't leave the circuit till 7.30pm. The clubs decisions were wrong for the track and the running of the meeting but there were 3 races for both championship's but we nearly had to be issued with torches.

I am very disappointed with the way the day turned out and with only one round left, I will be lucky to finish in a very disappointing 20th position but I will keep on trying and hopefully I will be able to turn things around and end on a high.

Thank you to everyone for all their support for me and the team.

Polesworth at Stipers Hill
6th September 2009
The Marchantmx team arrived at the Poleworth circuit, after setting up the van area I went to sign on and take a look at the track. My first thoughts were where was the watering? A track that is an all weather circuit, I was expecting the circuit to be soaked but instead very little watering was done.

Also the rocks around the track were also going to make some people regret riding there! But the show must go on and the conditions were the same for everyone so I made my way back to the van.

Practice
The track was as bad as what I thought, the stones were like riding on marbles and the water on the circuit was already starting to dry, so dust was starting to fly in areas.

Knowing the circuit is stoney, I can't really moan too much, but I left the track a little disappointed on the efforts of the club after the session.
Race One
Dad had fitted some hand guards to the Marchantmx Honda as the stones had already bruised three fingers. So I lined up for the race and got a real good jump off the line and was third into first turn. I quickly moved past Jack Bas and tried to make a few passes for the lead but Del Busso was making it hard work and was using all of the track to his advantage. This played into Cannings hands and he made the pass on me moving me into 3rd again. Over the next few laps I finally got the pass stick on Del Busso and with Cannings now gaping us, I pushed hard to close him down but it was a short race of 12 minutes which stopped my pursuit, ending the race in 2nd position.
Race Two
I had a shocking start and after the first few laps, I had moved into 4th position behind Halls. I could see Cannings starting to pull away, so I made a pass on Halls around the banked right hand corner then showed Del Busso the 450 power down the hill and off the step up, to move into second. I tried hard to close down Cannings but again with the race time so short I had to settle for 2nd position again.

Race Three
With another stinker of a start, I was making the day hard work for myself but after dodging Reed and Wright's bikes, as they decided to have a lie down in the most difficult of places, I managed to avoid the carnage and slipped into 2nd position again! I kept Cannings in sight but I made a mistake of my own and hit the deck.  I quickly re-mounted but I had no skin left on my elbow and I felt every bump around the circuit, but I pushed on to take 2nd position behind Cannings.

I finally finished 2nd Overall which was a good result. I showed good pace through the day so I will keep plugging away every week to reach my full potential on the MarchantMx Honda 450 machine.

The Polesworth MX club ran the meeting below par and decisions made were not the right ones, a disappointing meeting for everyone! A big Thank you to everyone behind me and the team, for all their support and commitment.
AMCA Championships Rd 6, Shrewsbury at Condover
30th August 2009
SUNDAY

It was going to be an action packed Bank holiday weekend as the MarchantMx team arrived at the Condover circuit for the 6th Round of the MX2 AMCA Championship. The track look well prepared and watered well, but with the sky full of clouds, it was going to be a gamble to how the club managed the circuit to keep dust at bay.

Qualifying
I felt good riding around the circuit and the bike was giving me a good feel, as it had some TLC in the week. I made a big mistake as I missed the timing board on the first lap and I think this was a crucial point as the track got rougher and I got a fast lap in but I could only manage a big disappointing 31st fastest, but I kept my chin up and had to wait to see how the day went.

Race One
With a bad qualifying position my gate pick was in the worst gates but I used my head and got a mid pack start. I pushed hard in the first few turns to move up positions but I had picked up a puncture in the front tyre. I was so disappointed but continued the race to see if I could pick up valuable points but the bike was becoming un-rideable and me and Dan Hill had a rub in the sand section and I couldn't stop quick enough and ended up in the ropes. I dug myself out and got going again and finished in 28th position.

Race Two
The puncture fixed, I knew I had to make the next two races count. I got off to a mid pack start again but through the race I lost places and gained places as it was a bit of a scraggy race with some good laps but I was trying very hard to move past Aled Bellis but I couldn't quite do it and ended the race in 18th position.

Race Three
It was down to the last race and I was looking to end the day on a good note and it all started great and I got a top 15 start. I made a lot of places in the first few corners to put myself in a respectable top 10 position behind Kristofer Ayres and I pushed hard to make a pass but I also had to protect my lines as Jack Taylor was breathing down my neck. He made a pass on me and also Ayres moving me into 11th position and now at the halfway point I stepped it up a gear and put a pass on Ayres but he decided to T bone me into the ropes through to the bushes, but luckily I kept my head down as I shot into them. Once I finally got my breath back, but in pain, I remounted and rode the Marchantmx KTM back to the paddock very disappointed.

I finished the day a very disappointing 31st position, but I think I was lucky to walk away from the crash in the last race by a reckless and dangerous rider Ayres. I will make it my duty to get my revenge on him but I will keep it on the track. With just two more rounds, I will have to pull off some good results if I am to move up the standings but I will try my hardest to get there.
Wolves at Hungry Hill
31st August 2009
MONDAY

I made my way to my own club's meeting at Hungry Hill straight after Condover. I got there just in time to see the fireworks which was as good as the display for the IMBA/Championship event the beginning of the year. The members and committee made good work on the circuit ready for a full packed meeting.

Practice
I had a chance to ride on a 2009 Honda 450 by the Cook family so with the Expert race being unlimited it was going to be good for me to see what the bike had to offer. The track was in great shape even after the meeting was run on it the day before, and also I felt at home back on a Honda and everything was all set for hopefully a better days riding than Sunday.

Race One
I made the start straight another 3 metres longer as I was shot to the right but I got back on the right direction and used all the power in the 450 engine to recover and move in behind Reggie in 2nd position.

We had a bit of a moment as I went around Reggie and his bike stepped out nearly having a coming together but I moved into the lead. I pushed a steady pace over the next few laps to make a good gap between me and James Shand and just enjoyed riding around the circuit to take 1st position.

Race Two
I grapped the holeshot and pushed hard to gap the other riders but my weekend's bad luck continued and I picked up another front wheel puncture. I continued on through the race dragging my foot in the turns for support and looked for all the loose lines to keep it on two wheels. I had slipped down to 5th position and that is where I ended the race.
Race Three
It was going to take a bit of luck for me to take the overall but I was just going to do what I needed to do and that was to win. Reggie grabbed the holeshot and I was hot on his tail. I made the pass and gapped them all again so I just played around throwing up the roost by hitting all the loose berms around the circuit having a blast and finally took the chequered flag.

It wasn't to be today as I ended in 2nd overall but had a good days riding. Everyone in the Wolverhampton club can be proud as the club always sets the standard when it comes to running meetings. WELL DONE EVERYONE!

Thank you to all the people behind Team MarchantMx and let's hope I can get the monkey off my back and finally get the results I deserve.
AMCA Championships Rd 5, Dursley at Nympsfield
23rd August 2009
It was Championship time again, and after just over a month break, the Marchantmx team made their way to Nympsfield. Today me, Dad and Becki were joined by Rich Tudor and Jo, who chose to have a week off and come along for a watch.

The track looked good and with some new jumps and sections included into the track, everything looked good for some good racing. I got everything together ready for the start of the qualifying session.

Practice/Qualifying
The track was good and very grippy but the start was going to be a problem as it was tight and also difficult to stop with the added wood chipping, and the track was very fast and tight so the start was going to be the key part of the race. I got a good enough lap in at the start of the qualifying session and with the track getting rougher through the session, I couldn't get a better lap and ended the session in 21st fastest.

Race One
I didn't get the best of jumps off the gate but I used my experienced head and carried my speed into the corner and kept it upright. I was in 8th position but I started struggling straight away as I tensed up and lost many places through the first part of the race. I had dropped down into 16th position by the time I had relaxed and pulled it together but on the last part of the race, I started to close back in on Brad Nixon but having Chad Yarranton on my tail, I had to defend my lines and stayed in 16th position till the end of the race.

Race Two
It was a  very bumpy first turn and James Lane went down just in front of me but I managed to dodge the mayhem and was in 15th position on the first lap, but it was like a freight train of riders in front and riders behind me. With some wrong line choices, I found myself dropping back but I had to keep it upright and with mistakes by Halls and Mathia, I moved back in to 15th position and this is where I ended up at the flag.

Race Three
This was the start that I didn't want and was down in the first turn along with Pearce and Dobson but we all managed to keep the machines running and quickly remounted. Unfortunately, the bike was twisted and not having the time to get it straightened, I continued on and managed it through the race and lap after lap I moved up and by the end of the race I had got back into 20th position behind Simon Lane.

I ended the day 17th Overall with some good points to add to the standings, but I wasn't completely happy with myself as I had lost some valuable places through the day but with 3 rounds left, I am going to have to turn it up.

Thank you to everyone involved in the Marchantmx team and also to Rich and Jo for their support through the day.
Hereford at Walterstone
9th August 2009
This week the Marchantmx team travelled to the Walterstone circuit, due to the Burton MXC having to cancel their meeting at Stenson due to the track and paddock under water.

It was a bit of a rush when we arrived at the Walterstone circuit as practice was just about to start so I would have to go out in the Senior practice session. The pressure was on this week as Becki had joined us, she picked a good weekend to come and show her support as the sun was shining.

Practice
The track was dry and grippy and loose dust berms were starting to develop, causing the dust to fly, which wasn't a good sign as it was only practice but I continued to sort out some lines and got a good feel to the bike ready for the racing.

Race One
I lined up with the rest of the MX2 Experts with the track very fast and now very dusty, so a good start was going to be essential. All the other riders must have had the same idea as it was like bumper cars in the first turn. I was just inside the top 10, so I got my head down and pushed on, lap after lap I moved up places but the vision in the dust was extremely bad. I got into 4th position behind Smith, Lane and Halls, It was hard to find a passing move on Smith and I had to settle for 4th position as the race came to a end.

Race Two
I got off to a super start and hit the front, I pushed hard but I was having problems with my right arm starting to pump up and I made a mistake allowing Lane to slip past me. I continued to try and push Lane's pace but I was now really struggling and now Dan Hill was on my case, he made a pass on me and moved me down into 3rd position. I tried to keep it altogether and with Halls closing in, I knew I had to keep it tidy to the end. I ended the race in 3rd position behind Hill and Lane. I was a little disappointed as I knew I should have been faster but with a pumped up arm I just had to do the best I could.

The day was cut short due to the dust problems and was cancelled, It was ironic one meeting cancelled due to the track being water logged and the other cancelled due to the dust in the same week. I ended the day joint 3rd position with Dan Hill so it was a good result in the end and we will have to see what happens next week at Sandbach hosted by the Acorns club.

Thank you to everyone behind the Marchantmx Team through the 2009 season.
Burntwood IMBA at Branston
2nd August 2009
It was back to racing in my home group with the Burtwood Barracudas hosting the 5th round of the AMCA MX1 Championship and IMBA MX2 Championship.

With heavy rain through the week it was going to be challenging for the club and the waiting for the club to tow vans onto the paddock wasn't a good start to the meeting ahead.

I decided today I was going to have a race on Mike Penn's Suzuki 450, he has been keen to get me on the bike since he bought it, so I thought it would be good for him to see it in action. The meeting was delayed due to vans having to be towed in so it was a long wait before my practice session.

Practice

The track had dried out a lot, but was now left with deep ruts around it. I settled into the workings of the bike and found out the front brake was sharp and lost the front of the Suzuki and bit the dust, I quickly re-mounted and continued on to the end of the session.

Race One

My decision of a second gear start didn't pay off and I was buried in the pack, but I pushed hard through the race but I was struggling with the gearing on the bike.

I tried hard to close down and pass the rider's in front of me but by the end I had got into 8th position which wasn't too bad but knew I had a lot more to get out of the bike.

Race Two

We sorted the gearing out and I lined up, I got a little better start but I could feel the difference in the bike but on the steep decent, I got the rear end up a little to high and landed in a heap at the bottom.

I re-mounted and got my head back straight and started to pull through the riders. I had moved back into 12th position behind Rich Tudor and I tried to slip on the inside of him but as I exited the rut, I was left with a hard and slippery surface and I went down. By the time I got back going the race was over.

Race Three

I wanted to end the day on a good note and got off to the best start of the day and on lap two, I had moved into 3rd position behind Halls and Cannings. I started to close the gap on the two in front but again I hit the deck.

I re-started the bike a bit deflated and continued on but over a rutted bump the foot pegs dug into the jump and I was sent nearly over the bars. I managed to keep it upright but smashed my leg off a post. I could no longer carry on so I pulled out of the race in pain.

Although the day didn't go to plan for me or the Burntwood Barracudas, I enjoyed riding Mike's machine and hopefully the next time I will get it together and get some good results.

Thank you to everyone behind the team and also thanks to Mike for his bike, and I didn't wreck it too much. A big thank you also to Vanessa Palmer for sending me great photos every week.

Druids at Kerry
26th July 2009
It was raining all the way to the Anchor Hill Circuit in Kerry but instead of turning around, which would have been for the best, I decided to have a look at the circuit's condition before making my mind up.

After the practice session, the track wasn't looking too bad, so I decided to race. We got everything together and I lined up with the rest of the MX2 Expert riders.

I got a rubbish start and the rain was starting to fall again, so I took a few laps to get into a groove and started to pick my way past riders and moved my way up into 4th position.

The track was starting to deteriorate due to the continuous rain, so I settled into a steady pace and kept it on two wheels till the end of the race. I finally finished in 4th position behind Paul Conway, Dale Halls and Ryan Jones.

I decided to call it a day as the rain wasn't backing down, so we made the long journey back home.

Thank you to all of the people supporting the Marchantmx team.

REMEMBER, I have a Marchantmx and MTR training day at J4M54 on Thursday 30th July, only small groups of 5 so if you are interested hit the email link at the top of the page.
Worfield at Cleobury
19th July 2009
I arrived at the Cleobury circuit hosted by the Worfield MXC. It has been a few years since I'd last been here, so it was going to be good to race on the circuit again. I took a good look at the track when I trekked up to sign on, it had changed slightly and it was going to be hard riding against the people who were riding there on Saturday, but I would have to see.

Practice
I have got to say it was a bit one lined but with the track a little tacky due to the over night rain it would hopefully lead to some mistakes by the other MX2 riders.

Race One
The start was a JOKE! I don't think the 15 second guy knew what he was doing but the gate dropped eventually and the front few didn't know that they had to go around the tree at the top and caused havoc. I got bumped a few times but managed to keep it on two wheels. I was pushed to move up the order but it was hard to pass and the front few had pulled a gap, so I continued on but had to settle for 5th position behind Weaver, Jones, Pearce and Dobson.

Race Two
The rain had started to fall before the race started and the track conditions were now quite slippery so a good start was required. Me and Dobson jumped out of the start together but he managed to get a bit better drive and I eventually came out in the top 6. I quickly moved into 5th position, but the track was getting worse lap after lap as the rain continued. I settled into a safe pace to try and keep it upright. I moved into 4th position as Pearce made a mistake but on the last lap I got a brick in the eye off a lapped rider causing me to have to slow up and Wright took advantage and slipped on the inside of me dropping me to 5th position again. I tried to recover and got back on Wright's case but couldn't make a pass back and had to settle for 5th position again.

The racing was cancelled after the end of the second block due to the weather and track conditions so I finished 5th overall on the day. I was a bit disappointed but I will try again next week at Kerry and hopefully get the results I know I am capable of.

Thank you to everyone behind the Marchantmx team.
Wrekin at Castle Caereinion
12th July 2009
I arrived at the Caereinion circuit hosted by the Wrekin Motocross Club and was welcomed to the event by heavy rain. I had decided to stop the night being I was on my todd, so I set up camp by Rich Tudor.

I eventually woke up to sunshine, I had a quick look at the circuit, it looked really good even after all the heavy rain. I sorted myself out and got ready for the practice session.

Practice

The practice session was cut short for me after only one lap as the bike gremlins had struck. It soon became apparent that I would not be able to continue to race due to the bike's status.

Race One

The day was not over as I had a choice of Rich Tudor's 250 2 smoker or Nath or Ryan Palmer 505's, after a long thought I chose to race on Nath's KTM 505.

I was dropped in the deep end as I just jumped on and lined up. I got a good start as expected and moved quickly into 2nd position behind Dobson but after a few laps I started to get very tight so I let Halls and Weaver past me.

Halls made a mistake moving me back into 3rd position behind Weaver and Dobson, so I just kept a steady pace and took the third spot.
Race Two

The track was looking very choppy, so with the suspension set up for Nath, I knew I was going to have a hard ride but I was just happy to be riding.

I came down to the second turn in 1st position but, as I thought, I was being thrown around the circuit all through the race. At at the halfway point, I was having grip problems and thought I had a puncture but I didn't. I tried to continue but my arms were now like Popeye's, so I cruised to the end of the race.

Race Three

I got another good start but I opted to just have a steady ride as the track was now very rough so I stopped behind Chris Hill and had a nice comfortable ride to finish off the day.

The Wrekin Club put on a good meeting, and even with a few red flags they ended the day in good time.

A big Thank you to the Palmer family and to Rich Tudor for the offering of their bikes, I enjoyed the day riding the KTM 505 but I know my body will be scrap Monday morning.

Thank you to everyone supporting the Marchantmx Team.
Newport at Long Lane
5th July 2009
I made my way to the Long Lane circuit, it is only a 15 minute drive from my house so it was good to have a lie in. I got to the track and took a good look with Fat Tony, Titch and Budha my dogs. The track was as you would have expected, well graded and watered as it is a sandy circuit so everything had been put in place by the Newport club for a good day's racing.

Practice
I got a really good feel around the circuit over a few laps and I felt that with some good starts I could get some top three results.

Race One

I got tangled up going down the start straight, I managed to keep it up right but I was well down in the back of the pack. I pushed hard to pass as many riders as I could and managed to pass Jamie Dobson and move into 11th position. I worked hard over the next few laps as the circuit doesn't provide you with many passing places but I made the passes stick and moved up the order. I managed to finally finish in 5th position but closed a big gap between me and the other four riders, so I was happy with my performance.

Race Two
I managed to get a better start in the top 10, I made a few passes to move in to fifth position behind Del Busso, then over the back section, when the dust settled, I was faced with Jamie Dobson's bike straight in front of me after him having problems. I smashed into him and his bike, I was sent all over the front end of my bike leaving having to steer using the front mudguard so I quickly grabbed the handlebars. I had a squeaky voice but I managed to stay on to the bike somehow.

I managed to keep Pearce and Cannings behind me for a few laps but with my family jewels still in my stomach, I struggled through the race to eventually finish in fifth position.

Race Three
I got another bad start outside the top 10 but I worked hard to pass the riders in front of me and had moved into fourth position but Pearce, Halls and Jones had pulled a gap on me but I tried to pull them in, but with the track now very rough, I decided to settle for 4th position.

I finished the day in 4th overall, I was happy with my riding and with some better starts I feel I could have got into the top three.

Thanks to everyone behind me and the Marchantmx team for all their support through the 2009 season.
Shrewsbury at Condover
28th June 2009
With no meetings being run in the South Staffordshire group for the next few weeks, it was an opportunity for me to race at other groups circuits. This week we opted to race at Shrewsbury MXC at Condover.

The circuit had been watered well on Saturday but unfortunately there was a heavy rain in the evening and overnight causing the track to be very muddy and boggy.

Practice
The track was very wet, but I was enjoying letting the rear of the bike hang out around the corners speedway style. The weather was looking good for the day so track would dry out through the day.

Race One
I got a shocking start but by the first lap I had moved into fifth position behind Dan Cole, the track was still very wet and boggy in places so I just kept my head. The track was already getting one lined as it started to dry out, so I just had to wait for mistakes from Cole. I got past him and set my sights on Joe Wright. I closed in on him in the next few laps but the end of the race was upon me and had to settle for fourth.

Race Two
I had a good jump off the gate but collided into the back of Cole and I was at the back of the pack again, so I pushed hard to pass riders but by the time I had got into sixth position, at the mid-way point of the race, I had a big gap between me and the top five but I continued to push and closed in onto them but I couldn't get past Cole and ended the race in sixth.

Race Three

I changed my position on the gate for the last race and I got good drive up the start straight but got pushed really wide, so I slotted back in but I was back in the top ten. The track was now one lined and was extremely hard to pass. I pushed Cole all the way through the race but I just couldn't make a pass stick and then on lap 4 he made a mistake on a hard slick corner and I managed to get by him and continued on after Del Busso in fifth. The track again caused me problems when trying to make a pass and again ended the race in sixth position.

I ended the day in 4th position overall behind Halls, Pearce and Dobson. It was a tough day but I felt that I wasn't on the same level as the other three, but I will continue to keep my head down and come back out swinging next week at Long Lane.

Thank you to everyone involved in the Marchantmx team.
AMCA MX2 Championships at Kerry Rd 4
21st June 2009
I arrived at the hillside circuit in Kerry, It has been a few years since the last time I raced here and I can remember it wasn't a good day. But I wasn't going to let the memories spoil the day and looked forward to the racing.

The track wasn't all that different but the changes that were made looked good. The track was watered but not as much as I would have liked to have seen. So I did the mile hike back to the van to get ready for the qualifying session.

Qualifying
The track was starting to get quite rough in places after a few laps, so I knew that an early fast lap would be required so a quick rest and drink, then off to work. I posted a good lap time 13th fastest so I just kept a watch of the competition, and by the end of the session I dropped to 17th fastest  so I was happy with my speed.

Race One
I lined up on the gate next to Shaun Pearce and Lee Dunham. I got a good jump out of the gate but I got a little bit of a tangle with them and had to shut the throttle off but I managed to feed through a lot of riders to come out in the top 15. I pushed to keep a good pace but I was making loads of mistakes and I was loosing places and this started to effect my riding so I tried to get my head back into the race but ended a disappointed 23rd position.

Race Two
I got my head together and lined up next to Neale and Pearce on the gate. I had a great jump off the gate and powered into the corner and came out in 7th position behind Dobson. I rode and pushed hard through the race losing places and gaining places, but the fun was cut short due to Slesser needing medical help and the race was red flagged. I was dropped from 10th back into 11th position as the race was awarded back a lap, this was good for some people but not for me and others.

Race Three
I wanted to end the day on a good note and got another good start and was well in the top 10 but It didn't last long as Dunham dropped it in front of me and I went down after hitting his bike. But I remounted and pushed hard to pass riders and moved into 17th position behind Simon Lane, we battled making several passes on each other until I got a puncture in the front wheel but I still had 8 minutes left till the end of the race, so I had to use my head and managed to finish the race in 19th position, so I was happy that I finished the race and still picked up some good points.

I finished 16th position overall on the day and picked up some valuable points. I have moved up the standings to 24th position and with four championship rounds still remaining, there is still time for me to get to where I know I should be.

The AMCA finally showed some interest in people's complaints of the Big Bore situation but it was a bit late measuring different machines as everyone knew they were going to, but there is a new idea now and that stroking the engines which when the bore is measured it will pass as it isn't the bore that's changed as people that know engine's the CC of a engine is calculated by the measurement of the Bore by the STROKE of the piston, so the Half a job award goes to the AMCA!

The AMCA, half a job way!

Thank you to everyone supporting and helping me and the Marchantmx team on and off the circuit.
Clee Hill Victors at The Llan
14th June 2009
Hi Guys,
Another disaster due to the weather but there are Clubs and then there is Wolverhampton Club.

It was a change of scenery for this week and I ventured over to the Llan hosted by the Clee Hill Victors MXC. It was back in 2006 when I last rode the track, so It was going to be good to race on a different track with different competitors.

Practice
The track hadn't changed much from the last time I had ridden it, the track was quite dry as the day's forecast was going to be HOT!. It took me a good few laps to get some lines sorted so I just had a steady ride around the circuit.

Race One
I didn't get a very good start as I got too much wheel spin on the long grass, but filed through a few riders and found myself in 4th position but I wasn't riding too good so I backed off to study the other rider's lines over the next few laps. Then I picked it up and started to post some quicker times and made a pass on Colin Walker to move into 5th position. I closed in on Dan Cole but it was too late and I had to settle for 5th position. I wasn't happy with myself and knew I had to get it sorted for the next race.

Race Two
The race was red flagged after a couple of laps due to a incident on one of the down hill jumps, this is when the hosting club decided to postpone the re-start to water the track. On the re-start, I had a good start and was in 5th position, I quickly passed Walker and started to push for the front three Pearce, Dobson and Jones. A mistake from Jones ended him in a big heap, so I started to give chase to Pearce and Dobson but on the fourth lap I felt my right foot rest disconnect from the bike. I tried to continue but it made braking impossible so I went to search for the missing foot rest which I am happy to say I found it.
The racing was cancelled after the second block due to the track conditions being too dusty.

I think it was a bit of the Clee Hill Victors Club fault for not managing the watering situation well, it was dusty in practice so you can't expect it to get better.

It was good to hear people still praising Wolverhampton for all our efforts a few weeks ago, so you would have thought people may learn.

Thanks to everyone supporting the Marchantmx team and hope Kerry, next week, is a success.
Burton at Stenson
7th June 2009
Hi Guys, What a RUBBISH! weekend. Turned up for Stenson but didn't ride. Wonder why! Hope your weekend was good and see you soon.

After heavy rainfall over the last part of the week, it was a shock to hear from people at the Stenson circuit that the track wasn't too bad. So we made our way to the circuit and parked up by Rich Tudor. I went to sign on and take a look at the track. Even after heavy rain on the morning the track was still in a good state.

Just before the practice sessions got started, the heavy rain and thunder bounced off the ground, punishing the track and turned it into one long mess, so I made the decision to not risk wrecking my bike and stayed in the dry.

The Burton MXC decided to put races together to get the meeting over quicker for the riders that wanted to ride, and managed to get two blocks of racing so the club didn't have to refund any money. it was worth the cost of about £40 as we possibly saved £300 not having to replacing the clutch, brake pads, chain and sprockets.

It was a shame about the meeting as I do like racing on the Stenson circuit and the Burton MXC host good meetings, but I think deep down that the club should have thought about the safety and also the damage caused to the bikes and cancelled the meeting as there were only a hand-full of riders in the races but I think that my and other riders decision was the right one.

Hopefully next week at the Llan, we will have a little better weather and I will get some quality bike time.

Many thanks to every one supporting and sponsoring the Marchantmx Team and I will be ready to mix it with the South Shropshire MX2 riders.
Cannock at Abbotts Bromley
31st May 2009
I arrived at the Abbotts Bromley track which was freshly graded and watered heavily for the days racing ahead. I hadn't raced on the circuit since last year so I was expecting a bit of a difference to the track but it still looked the same, only the whoops had been changed. The day didn't start to good when I discovered I had forgot my goggle bag with all my goggles and tear-offs but Rich Tudor sorted me out and the panic was over. Cheers Rich!

Practice
The track was very slippery in places, so I just rode around to get a feel of the track but it was hard for me to get into my flow and felt the track wasn't graded as good as it normally had been but I continued on to find the better lines.

Race One

I got a terrible start and was down in 7th position behind Paul Conway, He made it hard work for me to pass him but I also felt I wasn't quite on the pace that I should have been on. The race was now at the halfway point and I knew I had to sort myself out. I made a pass on Phil Halls and Conway to put me into 5th position. I pushed hard but still felt that things weren't gelling and a mistake by Weaver saw me put into 4th position but with a gap between the rest of the MX2 riders. I couldn't quite close the others in and had to settle for 4th position by the end of the race. On inspection of the bike my Dad found that the exhaust on the bike had split, so he changed a few things on the bike ready for the 2nd race.

Race Two
I got another bad start and was starting to wonder what I was doing wrong today. I made some passes over next few corners and moved into 4th position behind Wright, Jones and Weaver. I pushed hard to pass Wright but he was riding all the right lines but with just 3 laps until the end I made the pass on Wright and then tried to close the gap between Jones and Weaver but it was too late and again I had to settle for 3rd position. I was getting very frustrated with myself with my riding but knew I had to change it all in the last race.
Race Three
This time I got a good jump off the gate, but I was just pipped for the holeshot by Jack Jones, but he made a mistake in just a few more corners putting me back into the lead. I tried to pushed hard to gap Weaver who was hot on my tail and I posted some good lap times but I was starting to have a few problems and Weaver made the pass on me. I continued to push behind Weaver but my problems were causing me to loose time, so I settled for 2nd position. I was a little disappointed with my riding but I also had a few problems. I finished 3rd overall on the day with just a few points separating Me, Chris Hill and Jack Jones.

I put in a below PAR performance today and along with a few problems, I was lucky to come away with 3rd overall but I will put this weekend behind me and look forward to next weeks racing at Stenson hosted by the Burton MXC.

Thank you to everyone behind Team MarchantMx.
Wolverhampton at Hungry Hill Bank Holiday Monday
It was the day after a perfect day and there was a bit of a relaxed atmosphere and with the track regraded and watered, it was all set for another good day's racing.

Practice

My hands were sore from yesterday's racing, so I didn't know if I would be able to hold on for the duration of the races, but the track was still rough in places as the track's soil hadn't had chance to settle, but I was sure that it wouldn't get as rough as Sunday.

Race One

I didn't get the best of starts but used my head and by the first turn, I moved into second and then made the pass for the lead along the up hill drag. I pushed to gap the rest of the riders and then settled down but Nathan Phillips closed in on me, so I uped my pace to widen the gap again and took the race win.

Race Two

This time I got a great jump off the gate and pulled a good holeshot. I aonce gain set a good pace to gap the other MX2 riders and over the race period had a good 20 seconds lead over Phillips and took another race win.
Race Three

The weather had started to rain before the start of the last race, so I knew a good start and a focused head was needed as the track was becoming very slippery on the hard parts of the circuit. I got another great start but on the one corner I lost the rear end of the bike on the slippery part which made me go wide, so Phillips capitalised on my mistake and I lost the lead.

I continued to push Phillips and I hit a rock which gave me a rear wheel puncture so I made the pass on Phillips and rode the loose dirt lines to get the grip off the back wheel to gap Phillips. There was still about 4 laps before the end of the race, I used my head and managed to keep everything together to take the win and the maximum overall.

It was a good end to a good weekend, and hopefully this is the turning point of my season.

A big Thank you to everyone helping and supporting the Marchantmx team, Feehillymx, Foto-x, Find Ur Stuff, Rogers Rescue, Fox (Europe), Fro systems, Telford Motors, J4M54, My Mom and Dad and Si Butler.

Remember, there are still some places left for Thursday's Training Day, so if you are interested contact me on 07826 939437 or email from link at top of page.
AMCA MX2 Championships at
Hungry Hill Rd 3
The stage was set for the 3rd round of the AMCA Championship and IMBA Sidecar Championship. The expectations where high for this round as the last two have been cancelled due to dust problems, so Mick Penn got all the members, including myself, on Saturday night heavily watering the Hungry Hill circuit which I can still say is the best watering system set up in the country. The fireworks display was fantastic and everything was in place for Sunday's racing.

Practice/Qualifying
The track conditions were perfect with a number of options of lines around the corners. I continued to look for the right lines and then the qualifying board was shown so I went for it, but lost my front end on a tight right hand corner which wrecked that lap. I continued on for a few more laps but ,by the later part of the session, I was out in 41st so I pushed on and managed a lap that put me into 33rd fastest. There was a little problem with the bike, so I told my mechanic (Dad) and he made a few changes ready for the races.

Race One
I got off the gate OK and managed to weave my way through in to the top 20, with Dobson, Pearce, Slesser and Halls just in front of me. I just pushed hard with them but on the second lap, on the tight left hand air pin corner, I applied too much front brake going in the corner and ended up on the ground. I kept the bike running but was now down in 31st position, so I continued to push through the race but could only get back into 26th position by the end of the race.
Race Two
I got another OK start and was in the top 20 but the track was now very rough and line choice was getting very important, but the pace was still very fast. I got into a good rhythm and felt fast. I moved passed Yarranton and Neale moving into 19th position but a few laps from the end, I lost control of the bike in a very stoney right hand bend and went down again. I remounted in last and unfortunately that is where I finished. I felt very disappointed but my Dad encouraged me that there were some good positives in the race which I haven't been showing this year.

Race three
I felt down but not out and I lined up for the last race. I tangled with the rider next too me, so I had a red mist and I now had nothing to lose so I pushed past groups of riders and by the 5th corner I was up into 11th position behind Dobson, Pearce, Clitheroe and Taylor. I pushed my pace and followed for the better lines, but knowing I was in the best position I had been in all year, I knew I had to keep it together, so I continued to fight the rough and ready circuit. I made a few mistakes and Chris Hill managed to take me but I didn't panic and just continued on in 12th and waited for a mistake from him as he was riding on the limit. A few laps from the end Hill's bike cruised to a halt and I was back in 11th position and that's where I ended the race.

I ended the day in 22nd position overall but the last race has given me back the confidence I have lost this year so I can build on the last race result and try to work hard and get some top 10 results again and move up the standings table.

Wolverhampton club members and committee can be proud of all their efforts to put on the best meeting of the 2009 calender by far.
Polesworth at Stipers Hill 17.05.09
The MarchantMx team made their way to the Polesworth circuit hosted by Polesworth MXC. The club had been working hard on the circuit from their last meeting, It looked really good, all the jumps had been re-shaped and soil added onto the circuit in parts and also some new features which all looked well thought out.

Practice
I rode around the new improved Polesworth circuit, it was fun to ride again and the conditions were perfect, but with heavy rain during the practice sessions, the track was starting to get slippery in places but I just continued around to get some good lines ready for the races.

Race one
I got a good jump off the gate and was in the top 3 going into the first turn but Del Busso came up the inside of me and pushed me into Slesser. I managed to stay on the bike but was now in 7th position. I tried to push past riders but the track conditions were quite a bit more slippery then in practise.

It was hard work being behind riders and I was losing time keep having to clear my vision from the mud, but on the second lap, while I was clearing my vision, I hit a hole which sent me and the bike endowing into the tracks banking and I ended underneath the bike and fuel running all over my leg. I quickly pushed the bike from off me and refitted the fuel cap but my leg was starting to burn so I quickly rode back to the van with a very twisted KTM.

I didn't continue to race for the rest of the day as the burn to my leg was quite sore and the bike's sub-frame was also twisted and required repair. I was disappointed but felt I was making a good decision.

Next week is the 3rd round of the AMCA Championship hosted by my club Wolverhampton & District MXC, hopefully the weather will be on our side and make it the event of the year.

Remember I am running a Training day at J4M54 circuit on Thursday 28th May, email for more info.
Burntwood at Branston 10.05.09
Team MarchantMX arrived at the Branston circuit, and me and Fat Tony went to have a look and check out the track conditions. The track had been well watered by the Burntwood Club so it was all set for a good days racing.

Practice

I rode my race bike just to try out some things, the track was quite slippery in places but lines were starting to develop and the normal Branston bumps were starting to appear, I got a good feel for the track and felt I had a comfortable pace.

Race One

I didn't get the best of jumps off the gate but I made up a few places and was in fourth position behind Del Busso, Halls and Slesser. I made a big mistake in the right hand sweeping turn just before the step up jump and when the dust settled, I was upside down in some bushes.

I re-mounted but was now a lap down but I continued on the race missing a front number plate and transponder. Thinking about the points system, I carried on the race thinking that I would at least pick up last man's points, the race ended.

I went to see if I had been awarded any points as I didn't have my transponder on my bike, I was awarded a big fat DNF but with about 50 witnesses seeing me cross the chequered flag.

With a lot of questions, I was finally given my points but felt that the problem should never have been a issue!.
Race Two
To make matters worse my clutch went on the line, forcing me into the gate. I dug my front end out of the gate and raced after the pack. I picked through the riders and was in fourth but the clutch was causing me a few problems but I passed Paul Conway (tank) and with just one lap left I settled for third.

Race Three
Dad got the bike sorted and I got off to a better start and moved into the lead past Slesser. I pushed hard and continued to hold a good pace until 3/4 of the race but then I started to struggle with fatigue as my body still hadn't got over the virus I had got last week.

I gave the lead back to Slesser and was gutted but knew that I couldn't continue the fast pace,, but with a big gap between me and Halls who was in third, I finally finished in second position which was a good result to finish the day off with. I finished in 6th position overall but it could have been a lot worse after the issue in the first race. It was a well run meeting by the Burntwood club and dust was kept to a minimum, not like some of the previous meetings that I have raced this year.

Thank you to every one supporting the MarchantMX team, the confidence is starting to grow again.

REMEMBER, I have a Training Day which includes a bike set up by MTR Motocross on Thursday 28th May at J4M54. Email me for more info.

AMCA MX2 Championships at Bevercotes Rd 2

I was looking forward to this weekend's racing at Ollerton, the 2nd Round of the AMCA Championship. I had been training hard through the week but on early Friday morning I had to spend a lot of time in the bathroom, which continued through all day Friday, having picked up a stomach virus, this caused me a problem through Sunday's racing. We arrived at a well prepared Ollerton circuit, after last week's disasters at Culham, I was just going to do my very best and pick up some points.

Practice/Qualifying
The track was starting to dry very quickly and dust was starting to rise. The track was as fast as normal with some added twists and turns to try to slow the pace down. I decided to change on to the other bike as it was set up slightly differently and I ended qualifying in 27th position.

Race One
The track was now very dusty so a good start was essential but I didn't get the best of jumps, as Del Busso jumped the gate which caused me and Dan Hill problems. I tried to push hard through the riders but the dust was like fog and by lap 3, I had moved up to 17th behind Slesser, but I became very de-hydrated and my breathing became a problem and I lost time and places just trying to get to the end of the race. I finally finished back in 24th position.

Race two
I finally recovered from race one and my Dad (Bob) made me a water bottle so I could get some fluids whilst I was riding. I got a better jump out of the gate but was blocked out in the first turn, the dust was dangerous and I had to take it steady trying to struggle through the dust which was drying my throat badly. Even with the water, I started to fatigue and fall back. I tried to fight back and managed to move back into 26th position by the end of the race.

The meeting was cancelled due to the dust by the stewards and I can say it was a good call as the only way I knew when to turn for the corners was the helmet of the rider in front. I now have a few weeks to get myself back 100% fit and turn this season around for me, the team and my sponsors.

Many thanks to everyone involved in the MarchantMx team and my supporters it has been a bit of a rough couple of weeks, so I will see you all at Branston hosted by the Bruntwood Club.

AMCA MX2 Championships at Culham Rd 1
Pic by Mike Wood
It was the start of the first AMCA Championship at Culham. We arrived at the track and I took a look at it with Dan Hill. It had changed from the last time I had raced here, but even though the track had been watered, it was still very dry under cover. With blue sky and sun however, it was going to be hard to keep the dust at bay.

Practice/Qualifying
knowing the track well, I was going to need an early qualifying lap before the track deteriorated. I felt good on the bike and just looked for lines ready for the qualifying session. The board came out and I went for it, but on a right hand bend I lost my front end and went down.I quickly remounted to continue but again on the second lap, I lost the rear end in a berm but luckily stopped on the machine. I eventually got in an ok lap, but was down in 31st and a little disappointed.

Race one
I didn't get a good drive out of the gate and was buried in the pack but managed to get through the first few turns and pushed hard to work my way up the order. By lap four, I had moved into 21st but the bike wasn't quite right and I pulled in to talk to my dad. I DNF'd the race to try to and get the MarchantMx KTM back right for the second race.

Race two
My Dad (Bob), sorted the bike, but the track was now rough and very dusty. We lined up again for the second race. I got a good jump and by the first few turns I was well in the top 15 and I was pushing hard, but on lap three the race was red flagged because of the dust! This has got to be the first time in my racing days that this had ever been done.

The organisers got some water down and the race was postponed and then re-started after a support race. I got a good start again but tangled with Lee Payne in a left hand turn and ended up on the ground again! I remounted dead last with a mountain to climb but I never give up, and lap after lap I started to catch up the back of the tail of riders. I started to push the riders in front of me but the race was stopped due to a incident with 68 Paul Neale, 74 Rob Clitheroe and 10 Jack Taylor. The race was left to stand and points YES! points awarded to all the riders involved in the cause of the red flag! But there must be a different AMCA rule book for some riders.

Race three
I had a bad jump off the gate and in the first I ran into the back of a rider and I was down again but I quickly re-mounted and, with the bike still running, I was able to catch back up with the riders. I moved up the order lap after lap but it was hard to find the right passing lines due to the track condition and vision was poor due to the dust but by the end of the race I got into 25th position.

It was a big disappointment of a day which ended with me down in 34th position, but it is a long season and I am going to work hard to get the results I need.

Thank You to everyone for supporting and helping the MarchantMx team. Bring on next week, 2nd Round AMCA Championship at Ollerton.
Practicing at J4M54
This week I decided to go practiCing over J4M54. Lee has been working hard on the circuit and made a few changes. With the group meeting at Airfield Farm also a practice track, I thought it was better to pay and ride all day than three short races.

Also with the first AMCA Championship meeting next week, I could get some quality testing testing time on the bike.

It was quite busy in the adult sessions but I put into practice looking for new lines to pass the slower rider as if they were back markers. I posted some good times and had good four 20 minutes sessions.

The bike was feeling good and I was happy with my riding, as over the past couple of weeks, I have lost a bit of aggression on the bike but riding the 450f machine last week made the 250f a bit like a toy.

Overall the day was successful and I can't wait for next week at Culham and hopefully I can make 2009 a successful one for me and my sponsors. So check back next week to see how I got on.
Cheltenham at Brookthorpe 12.04.09
This week I borrowed a Ktm 450 off Nick Dawson from Rogers Rescue. I managed to get a little time over J4M54 thanks to Lee Jones (owner) and Charlie Hollis, but when the rain came I called it a day, with a few tweaks to be made to the bike ready for the racing on Sunday.

Sunday was here and with a few detours we finally found the Brookthorpe circuit. I have seen it many times when I have been driving back up the M5 but have never raced on it. The track had been well prepared, watered well and lots and lots of jumps.

Practice
Riding around the circuit it was very hard to dial it in as some of the circuit looked the same but with doubles, triples and step ups to contend with. On about the fourth lap, I managed to get everything together and then the session was over.

Race One
I had mainly been concentrating on getting used to the bike and forgot about maybe doing some practice starts, so my start was Rubbish! I was finding it hard to tame the beast inside the motor and by the time I got the front wheel back on the ground, I was about last going into the first turn, but I followed the precession of riders over jump after jump. Some riders made mistakes and I started to push forward but on a right hand bend I think I got a bit excited with the throttle and came into the turn to hot and too much front brake and I had a close inspection of the ground. I quickly re-mounted but I was last and with a big gap to catch up, but I kept plugging away lap after lap and managed to catch and pass some riders but the race came to a end. I was happy with my effort but felt slow in places but knew over the day I would be able to get faster.

Race Two
Again I didn't get off to the best of starts but I just continued to push but It was hard to pass as everyone was doing the same jumps and you just couldn't make up time. I managed to get myself in 15th position by the halfway point of the race with Jamie Dobson, Steve Bailey and Carl Benjamin just in front of me but the gap between us didn't change so I just continued to keep everything together and finally finished in 15th position. I felt that I was a little quicker than the first ride but still wasn't fast enough.

Race Three
I got a little better start but tangled with Lee Dunham's rear wheel and nearly went down but I managed to save it but was now close to the back of the pack. I tried to get past riders but It was hard and had to wait for the right time and with a fallen Jamie Powell was now hot on my heels. I managed to keep him behind for about 3 laps but I had a bit of a break and managed to pass a few riders but I made a big mistake coming into a chicane corner jump section and over rear braked which caused the back end of the bike to slide out so I quickly released the brake but I was just sent straight into the posts and ropes. I re-mounted and got back on the circuit and continued round the circuit and after the a few laps the race was over.

On the whole I enjoyed having the chance to race on the Ktm 450. I didn't set the world a light but got a good satisfaction that with only a limited amount of time on the bike I wasn't too far of the pace. So I will say a big THANKS to Nick for the loan of the bike, also to Lee Jones at J4M54 and to my dad for sorting out the bike.
Burton at Mallory Park 05.04.09
It was a bit of a disappointment driving to the Mallory Park circuit hosted by Burton MXC, everyone had been told that the track was going to be different the practice track but including some of the GP track. That was total BULL S***T!  It was just the practice track and the track wasn't even graded for Sunday's racing, just watering on top of the rock hard surface.

Practice
The track was like an ice skating rink in places and the only place that you could get on the power was a wood chipped straight, A BIG JOKE!

Race One
With the track being very one lined, a good start was essential. I got off to the start that I wanted and filtered into second behind Del Busso. I just watched his lines but I went wide around a big sweeping right hand turn and gave Ryan Morris just enough room for him to slip through on the inside, but I felt the bike not working right and fighting with the rear end which could only mean one thing a puncture. I tried to keep the bike upright and continued, but the track was dangerous enough without riding with a puncture, so I pulled of the track and back to the van.

Race Two
The bike was all back to normal as I lined up behind the start gate, but I spun up on the line and by the time I got to the first turn, I was well down in the top 10. I tried to make a pass on the battling group of riders but nearly loosing the rear of my MarchantMx KTM machine, I decided to just cruise around and play it safe. With the first AMCA championship just a few weeks away, I had to put my priorities first.

Race Three
I just wanted to get this race over. I got off to another good start and was in second again behind the fast starting Del Busso. I raced to keep Dan Hill and Morris at bay for a good half race distance but felt that being my fellow Wolverhampton rider Morris had won the last two races, I thought I would let him and Hill past to chase down Del Busso and I just continued to ride around behind the three of them and finished the race in 4th position .

The day was probably the worst day's riding due to the track and the organising club. I am just glad that me and the other riders all went home in one piece as I think that the track was DANGEROUS! and shouldn't have been able to have run the meeting. It is a practice track and why do clubs still think that they can run a race meeting on it. IT'S A PRACTICE TRACK!

There was some good racing but it was on the A5 between my dad and Lee Bayley but with Bayley's new water tanks gave him the edge on the weight loss distribution managed a boy racer overtake passing us a car in front then put the yellow bus into a gap that was just big enough. He has still got a race in him for a old'en!
Charnock at Whittle Mill Farm 29.03.09
Pic by Mike Wood
The MarchantMx team travelled up to the Charnock Richard circuit after a little diversion, as the post code given by the AMCA office on the entry tickets was incorrect (not surprised!). We finally found the only sign to the circuit and was towed on to the paddock. Fat Tony (my dog) and me went over to see what the track was like. With a long grass start, up and down hills and long straights, it was definetely a horse power track, also with some added deep boggy corners just to make it a little bit more harder for the MX2 bikes.
Practice
With only 26 riders entered the timed practice was just for peg position. It was a big struggle with power and grip on the MarchantMx machine as my thoughts on the track were right. I ended the session in 18th position with a bunch of other MX2 championship riders, clearly an MX2 bike wasn't going to be competitive on this circuit.

Race One
I lined up on the start gate to the right, the gate dropped and we all zig zagged up the start straight and on entering the first turn out of the corner of my eye, riders started to fall like dominos. Before I could react, I had Dufeu's Kawasaki sideways in my path. I smashed into it and did a superman over the bars, landing on my head and right shoulder.

I got back on my feet and tried to shrug the pain off my shoulder and re-mounted onto the Marchantmx KTM but on route around the circuit, I was struggling to hold on and went down again in a right-hand rut but the race was red flagged and re-started.

I got off to a rubbish start and gingerly got around the first turn and then started to pass riders but I was struggling and started to drop back and I decided to pull out of the race.
This was to be the end of my days racing and, with a long season ahead of me, I decided to not ride in pain. The whole meeting was a bit of a joke, to say the AMCA hosted the meeting, there wasn't much effort with the circuit but instead their priorities were the flags and banners and also the hire of a DJ to play music out of his Citroen Berlingo like the boy racer down the Merry Hill at the start of every race, but no one though to get a digger in action on the boggy corners. instead there was a strong smell of burning clutches all day.

Good work AMCA! (thank god they aren't hosting any of the championships!).

A big thank you to everyone supporting and involved in the Marchantmx team and also to my Dad for all of his effort with the bikes.
Walsall at Hobs Hole 22.03.09
I was looking forward to this weekend as first, I received my brand new Fox racing kit from Feehilymx and second, after last week I was hoping for a bit better luck and getting some good results under my belt.

I arrived at the Hobs Hole circuit ,it looked really good with a new banked berm and an introduction to wood chipping used to mix in with the soil, so I was interested as I have never raced on a wood chip surface.

Practice
I decided to go out in the first expert practice, after a few laps of the new look Hobs Hole circuit the track was good and flowing, which the track always lacked before. I put in a few fast laps but made a mistake in the far sand corner and one rider in particular found it highly amusing (Brandrick!) but remounted and ended the session.

Race One
I lined up on the start line just hoping for a good start as the only bad bit of the circuit is the start, it is very tight and off-cambered just to add to difficulty but I managed to get a good drop and was inside the top three but made a mistake with my line choice and Pete Weaver slipped passed me. I pushed hard and mid race through me and Weaver had a big coming together over the big ski jump as our lines crossed in the air. I managed to get away without crashing but unfortunatly Weaver didnt. I continued on in the race but I had damaged the bike in the incident but managed to pick up 3rd position at the end of the race behind Ryan Morris and John Slesser. I was sorry for Pete Weaver as it was a racing incident but we can only be both happy we walked away and continued to race through the day.

Race Two
I  didn't get off the gate well at all and struggled through the race lap after lap trying to pass Chris Hill and Weaver but the bike was hard to change gear and sometimes wouldn't, but I still managed to pass them both after the second time through the race to finish eventually in 4th position behind Chad Yarranton, Morris and Slesser. I wasn't too happy with the result but I just had to make the most of the situation and hope for a better start in race 3.

Race Three
My Dad and me decided that I would ride the championship bike for the last race. The gate dropped and I un-leashed the beast and managed to get into the top 3. With Morris and Slesser just in front, I started to lay on the pressure to Morris, and my plan worked and he made a big mistake in a left hander and I was now in 2nd position. I kept Slesser in my sights and had a look behind to see what the situation was and saw a big gap between me and Yarranton in 3rd, so I just kept it all together and settled for 2nd position but on the last lap a mistake by Slesser saw me take over the lead and finally took the chequered flag in 1st position. I was smiling from ear to ear exactly what I wanted to end the day.

By my suprise I ended the day 1st overall as Morris and Slesser couldn't recover from their problems, but a win is a win and with consistent results saw me 10 points clear at the top. The new Fox kit must given me a change of luck and hope I can continue my winning ways through the season. Also Walsall MXC should be proud of the way the meeting was a success and hopefully they can sort the first turn out for the next meeting as this was the only down side to the day.

Many Thanks to everyone behind the Marchantmx team and wish my mom a happy Mother's Day.
Bridgnorth at Dunston 15.03.09
The week leading up to this event had been a bit of a rollacoaster ride. It all started late on Sunday night when Becki's horse Jodocus had an allergic reaction to something in the hay that he was eating, causing a vet to be called out to him. Thankfully, with a little medical attention, he was stable but swollen up like the elephant man. Then Monday morning our little dog Stitches was acting strange and later that day popped out three puppies. Unfortunately two of them died but the one boy puppy is fit and strong. On Tuesday Becki lost her uncle to a Heart attack, so as far as shit weeks go, I can say safely say we just had one.

I turned up at the Dunston circuit, hosted by the Bridgnorth MXC, and the track was the biggest load of shit that I had ever seen. It was as hard as the A449 road and had more yes MORE! stones then Polesworth. I decided that since I was there, I would get ready for practice.
Practice
I rode around the circuit, it was slippy and very dry but if any water was put onto the track it would have been like a cross between an episode of dancing on ice and you've been framed! I continued around the track to see what pace I had in me for the days racing.

Race one
I decided not to get out the supermoto wheels yet! and lined up onto the start gate. I got off to a good start but the dodgy first turn caused me to get pushed wide and nearly out of the circuit but I kept it on two wheels and continued to push on in 5th position with Dobson, Chamberlian, Weaver and White in front of me. I set to work on them, I passed White and when putting pressure on Weaver a half house brick was shot into my path picking the front wheel up and forcing me to the ground. I re-mounted back into the top 10 and now with no skin on my elbow, I pushed hard behind Yarranton to be back into the top 5. After a few lap battle with Yarranton, I continued on to pass White and closed in on Del Busso but when behind Yarranton, a rock smashed my right thumb which was causing me trouble to hold on the the handlebars. I finished the race in 7th position with a glove full of blood and a sore elbow.

Race Two
I patched myself up and got off to a good start with Weaver, Chamberlian and Dobson in front of me. I pushed hard to keep up the fast pace, through the race I managed to pass Chamberlain and a few laps from the end I made a pass on Weaver moving me into 2nd behind Dobson but with about a 5 second gap, I continued to keep Dobson in my sights but had to settle for 2nd position. Picking up another injury to my knee that I had caught on a post thank god for knee braces!

Race Three
With me feeling like I had been in an England rugby scrum, I just wanted the day to be over. I shot out of the gate but got closed in on the first corner and emerged in 6th position behind Tom Neesam. I passed Tom and started to close the gap on Chamberlain, Halls and Pearce but with the track now having as much rubble as a tip coming up out of the ground, I made the decision to cut my losses and settle for 5th position. Finding it hard to hold on, and with a long season in front of me, I ended the race.

I am deeply disappointed in the Bridgnorth MXC. The track was RUBBISH! and with a year that everyone is struggling to keeping racing due to the credit crunch we deserved better. On the whole I finished 3rd Overall behind Chamberlain and Dobson, but I was just happy to get this week over.

I would just like to say a big thanks to every behind supporting me and the Marchantmx team and hopefully I can start to put some wins together.

Rest In Peace Peter Pearce.
Polesworth at Stipers Hill 08.03.09
It was time of the first meeting of the South Staffordshire Group, which was hosted by the Polesworth MXC at Polesworth.

With heavy overnight rain, the track had some hidden boggy places but with sleet and shower weather warning through the day, it was going to be a gamble.

Practice
The track was as I thought, boggy over the rear part with some deep boggy places after the jumps, but with the wind blowing across the track it would soon dry up. I got a bit of a clear track so I had a couple of clear laps to get some lines together for the races.

Race One
I was all set, lined up on the start gate but with the start gate about to drop the bike cut out and I was left abandoned on the line. I tried to start the Marchantmx KTM but felt it wasn't going to start.

I pushed it back to the van and, after quick work from my Dad, I joined the race on my race bike but with only a couple of laps remaining. I just passed who was in front of me till the end of the race ending up in 24th position (last place).
Race Two
With the fault with the bike found, I lined up again but this time I was off with everyone. I managed by the first lap to get into 3rd position behind Dale Halls and John Slesser. I pushed hard to close the gap on Halls but seemed to making little mistakes which was loosing me time. I managed to get in a couple of laps mistake free and closed in on him. I showed Halls the front wheel in a few corners and then Halls made a mistake which allowed me the chance and I took it to move into 2nd position and just had to keep it together for the next few laps and took the chequered flag in 2nd position. I was happy with the come back from race one problems.

Race Three
It was the last race of the day and with nothing to loose, I shot out of the gate and was in 3rd position behind Del Busso and Slesser. I quickly passed Del Busso and my sights were on Slesser. Lap after lap I was matching Slesser but I just couldn't quite to close the gap and with Halls breathing down my neck, I was having to also protect myself. I made a big mistake over the back end of the circuit table top and with the sun setting it made it a blind vision on entry to the jump. I got cross rutted, jarring my thumb and was now in a lot of pain and feeling every bump on the circuit. It was now the last lap but nearly unable to hold on to the throttle, Halls made a pass and pushed me down into 3rd position, so I just got around the lap to take the chequered flag.

Overall the day turned around and I ended up in 5th position overall, so I can take a lot of plusses from the meeting and see what next week brings. Thank you to everyone behind the Marchantmx team and also to my Dad for all his work.
Ollerton at Bevercotes 01.03.09
Pic by Andrew Wiley
I arrived at the Ollerton circuit, the track looked as well prepared as it was at the AMCA Championship last year, so I was looking forward to racing. With AMCA Championship riders in both Expert groups and full line-ups, it was going to be a good day's racing.

Practice
The track had been slightly changed from the AMCA Championship but it was still really good. I just got into a steady pace as it was a short practice session due to the amount of riders.

Race One
It was going to be all about the start to make the day better but unfortunately I got a bad start and I was down in 16th after lap 1. I just kept plugging away and after a few more laps, I had moved into 10th position but I could hear and feel that my bike started to get noisy and lose power and then my bike was missing the rear silencer and on the next lap the Black Flag was held out for me and that was the end of the race for me.

Race Two
With the Marchantmx KTM back together, I knew I needed to have good results in the next two races. I got a slightly  better start and was in 7th with Shane Holmes and Luke Spence just in front on me. I pushed hard and moved into 6th position with Dale Halls now in front of me.

I tried hard to pass him but I just kept having the door shut on me but I made a few mistakes and lost a lot of time and a place to Spence and ended up in 7th position at the chequered flag.
Race Three
I got the best start of the day and was in 6th position. I knew I had to move fast and by lap four I was in 3rd position with everything going to plan. I settled into a comfortable pace but was a little shocked as Ryan Morris, a fellow Wolverhampton MXC rider, tried to take me on the inside but I closed the door and stepped up my pace to the end of the race.

I salvaged the day but I need to do a little homework for next week and up my game, but it's a long season ahead so I will work hard and hopefully it will pay off.

Thanks to my Dad who works hard on the bikes and also to everyone who help and support the Marchantmx team.
2009 Update
With the start of the AMCA season nearly upon us, I thought it would be a good time to tell you how the pre-season has gone. I got back on the bike back in January and braving the hard frosts and snow, I contested in the Wilden MXC Championship. It was an uphill struggle with the bike and physical fitness, as it was at an all time low, so it has took me a good few meeting to get back into things. However, I have kept my head down and worked hard, on and off the bike, and eventually I was starting to get some strong races behind me.

I finished the Wilden MXC Motogoo Championship in 3rd behind Richie Worral and James Lassu so it was all worth it in the end. I have also been doing some mx training which has been successful, so this brings me to this weekend's racing at Wilden Lane hosted by Wilden MXC.

It was the first time that the Wilden lane track had been dry all year and, with a full line up of adults, it was going to be a good days racing. It was dry but still had some places on the circuit that were going to catch you out, but with the full circuit being used, the lap times were going to be longer so with three 25 minute races would seem shorter.

I didn't get off to the best of starts but managed to get through the carnage and was back into the top 10. Me and Hollis had a bit of a coming together but I managed to stay upright and passed him and a couple of other riders that got tangled up in a right hand corner and with another couple of riders having problems I had moved into the top 5. I pushed hard but about 3/4 of the race I started to have bike problems. I tried to continue but I decided to DNF the race before too much damage was caused.

Now on my race bike, I got off to a better start in the top 5 but lost and gained places back through the race, with the track starting to cut up, picking the right lines was esessential and with only a few laps left I was sitting in 4th position. I picked my way past some lapped riders and settled for the 4th position.

Hoping to end on another good result to take some confidence into next week at the first AMCA meeting of the season, I got off to another good start and was inside the top 6, but a mistake in a left hand corner by some ktm 450f rider wiped my front end from me. I quickly re-mounted and continued to play catch up just outside of the top 10. I had to re-mount again after another close inspection of the circuit. Now, in last position, I continued a hard mission to get back into the top 10 and by the half way point I was there so I continued to push as hard as I could and by the 3/4 point I was in 7th position and with 6th place rider in my sights.

I knew that time was running out so I closed in and made the pass and with a bit of luck, the 5th position rider was having his own problems and I was happy to take the position for him. I finally finished in 5th position, so from last to 5th position I can only be happy with my performance.

A DNF in the first race however wrecked my chances of a good overall result but that's motocross! I am just happy and enjoying myself racing what ever happens through the day and look forward to next week and hope for a bit more luck.
Annual Presentation Evening
It was that time of year for Wolverhampton & District Auto Club's annual presentation Evening. It was held at the Goodyear Sports and Social club on Stafford Road. The night was a success for the club and also the awarded riders, all thanks to Steve Horseley and family. I walked away with Best 125 Expert (MX2 Expert) and the Club Champion, so I can only be happy with how successful the 2008 season was.

Warming up for the 2009 has been a working progress with both the bike and physical fitness but this week has been a turning point, with some strong racing. I still have to work on some points but I will be ready for March 1st at Hobbs hole and with the full backing from the Foto-x Team, we all hope that 2009 can be more successful then 2008.

My aims for 2009 are to rack up the overall wins over the season, top 10 in the Championship rankings with some strong top five race finishes and also to give it my all against the pros in some selective KWS Championships.

So with BIG aims comes hard work and I am going to put a lot in to 2009 and I expect to achieve them, not only for me, but for my family, my sponsors and also for my supporters.

Bring on the 2009 season.
