On Thursday, I got the message and email that Round 3 of the British Masters had been cancelled due to the circuit and paddock area being water logged. I was a little disappointed, but knowing the nature of the Whitby circuit, it would have been a little dangerous with the amount of big jumps that make the circuit attractive to the riders.
It was off to sample my own club's track at Dunston Motoparc hosted by Wolverhampton and District Auto Club. A lot of work had been put into the preparation before this meeting, not just on the track but the surrounding areas around the circuit. My Dad was also taking out a day licence today, so it was definitely a Team MarchantMx today, everything looked good and I looked forward to checking out the new Dunston circuit layout.
Practice
I felt straight at home on the bike and the few changes that we had made to the bike, was helping me out a lot and I quickly got on a good pace, but it was still quite smooth allowing you to hang it out on the throttle. I thought the layout of the track worked well with fast and also slower tight sections, giving a good balance of different riding techniques.
Race One
There was no favouritism on picking the pegs and 36th position was definitely not the peg I would have liked but I lined up on the start, on the outside with a plan. All the plans went out of the window when the gate dropped as I didn't get the best of jumps and went into the first turn nearly last, but I got my head down and moved through the riders in front of me. By the half way point, I had moved into the top five but with a group of riders a few seconds in front, I closed in quick and made the passes by now in 3rd position. I just ran out of time to make a pass for second but from nearly last to 3rd position wasn't too bad of an effort. |
