I decided to miss the MX1 AMCA Championship on Sunday at Haverigg in Cumbria due to the travelling and only sitting in 20th position in the standings after a very disappointing start to the season, I felt it would not be worth while as I am not in the drop out one of the re-qualifying positions.
I made my way over to Condover, Shrewsbury to try and get a ride on the day. Luckily I managed to get in and got myself ready for the day ahead.
Practice
The track had been heavily watered and in places it was very boggy but a couple o dry lines had developed through the sessions but It was only a tight inside line and a very wide outside lines, so It was going to be a tough day to make passes. I felt good at the end of the session and had good speed for the races.
Race One
I got off to a good start in 3rd position behind Rob Crowe and Darren Bennett. I took a few laps to look for lines and then started to put on pressure but with the track still very wet, It was a bit like follow the leader and I tried a lot of times to get past Crowe but couldn't make any of them stick. I didn't feel too comfortable with the way my bike was working on the racing lines I was using, so I backed off to look for new lines for the next race and settled for 3rd position at the end of the race.
Race Two
I think after race one everyone wrote me off but I shot out the start and was in second position behind Crowe so I pushed hard to make the pass early on Crowe which I did on the first lap around the outside of him, then I just set my mind to win but I still made a few mistakes that made Crowe close the gap but I knew my speed was good so I just kept it tidy to take the win.
Race Three
The Clock was against the Shrewsbury club so they would only run the last blocks at 10 minutes, so I knew another good start was required and luckily I did and was in second behind Bennett. I again set to work to pass for the lead and after a few trys I finally moved into the lead. It was the last lap and Bennett wasn't going to fight till the end but I just controlled all the inside lines and took another race win.
I ended the day 1st Overall which was a great result as I made hard work of it with my problems in the first race but I turned it around to bring home another 1st overall.
I am really starting to enjoy my racing again and starting to generate a good string of results together, so again a Big Thank you to everyone for their support through the 2010 season and Vanessa Palmer for the pictures. |
