WOLVES DAC MAY BANK HOLIDAY MX FEST |
Wolverhampton DAC held it’s first event of the season at a perfectly prepared Hungry Hill track, near Cleobury Mortimer on Sunday and Monday.
The area had seem only two days of rain in two months in the weeks leading up to the event and the ground was rock hard but luckily it rained on and off throughout Saturday and for once the club was happy to see plenty of the wet stuff.
Constant maintenance of the track throughout the off season paid dividends as Hungry Hill was in the best shape for many a season, graded to perfection, grippy and smooth as racing started on Sunday. |

Wolves club are never completely reliant on rain, they have a fantastic track watering system in place, which was called upon as the day progressed and sunshine dried the track. It is always a tough call to water any track and whenever it is done the following group of riders always protest but the dust, combined with a stiff breeze, was making riding conditions tricky in places so a light sprinkling of water bought the track back to its best. |

The hordes of spectators who visited over the weekend were treated to some magnificent riding displays, none more so than from Richard Cannings who nailed all three Expert A races in style. The race for the two remaining podium spots was tough as four riders all gave their best but it was Wolves own Andy Marchant who took second spot just a handful of points clear of Duncan Dearden.
In the Expert B class Joe Del Busso didn’t have quite such an easy ride on his way to victory by just four points over Declan Burke in second place and Joe Wright in third, three points adrift of Burke.
There were three Senior groups. In group A Tony Webster took two out of three wins and backed it up with a second place to take the overall win. Lee Bingley’s consistency paid off with second overall, six points clear of third placed Adam Middleton. |

Seniors B went to Josh Waltho who’s win in the final race gave him the overall on the tie-break with Jamie Wilson, on the same points, demoted to second spot. Louis Hill took third in class.
Seniors C also went to a tie-break with Guy Walters taking the win ahead of Sean Wainwright on last race results. Stu Hipkiss took third. |
Andrew Tait blitzed the Juniors A group with three resounding wins for the overall title. Jason Queenan was never out of the top five and three consistently good results saw him take second in class with Craig Hartley in third place.
Juniors B went to Toby Yarrow who narrowly missed the three win treble. Third place in the first race saw him charge to two wins in races two and three for the overall top spot. Jordan Pratt was also very consistent and took second place just two points behind winner Yarrow. Damien Grace narrowly squeaked into third by a tie-break result in the final race.
Rhys Wetton was another two out of three winner. He took the Inter Junior class by eight points from Kyle Marshall with Kyle Stringer in third place. |

As the dust settled, work began on the track to get it into shape for a second day of racing and Wolves members did a magnificent job, working until 11.00pm, to return the track to it’s former condition ready for Monday’s Championship races. Up again at 7.00am Wolves members were busy for an hour watering the track to ensure prime racing conditions. |

With the Sidecar IMBA event at Hungry Hill just weeks away many of the sidecar Championship contenders were out in force. Tony Grahame and Niel Friary set the pace right from the start and went on to take three solid wins on their favourite track. Edward and Kristian Turner were never far behind and took second overall with the pairing of David Petty and Tom Andrews taking third overall.
Leonie Smith dominated all three races in the Women’s Championship and went home with a maximum 180 points to her credit. Hannah Whitehouse followed Smith home in each race for a solid second place overall as Hannah Spencer took third.
The MX2Youth Championship saw yet another clean sweep. Jack Jones fended off numerous challenges from Jorden Payne to take the overall win with Pyne taking second spot and Steven Owen third.
Jordan Pyne won the Youth 85/150 Championship class ahead of Jordan Meacham and Lewis Hughes while the Inter Juniors top spot went to James Wainwright followed by Rhys Wetton and Catherine King |
|
The Experts saw two great rides from Paul Neal who didn’t ride in the third race which allowed Ryan Morris to grab a win and the overall class win ahead of Craig Badman in second place and Andy Marchant in third.
Ste Plant returned to MX after a couple of years break and went straight to the top of the Seniors class, despite finishing the final race with a puncture, he was determined to get the overall win. Curtis Mears slotted into second place with Gary Burke in third.
Ash Beniston was never out of the top two positions in the Juniors class and a win in the final race gave him the overall top spot. Jack Hill was in line to win with two victories to his credit but slipped up in the final race and eventually took second place overall ahead of third placed Adam Cadwallader.
Cloud cover on Sunday certainly helped keep the dust at bay for quite some time but Wolves did water a couple of time towards the end of the day. Two day events are always difficult but the Hungry Hill track held up well thanks mainly to constant maintenance work from Wolves members who put in 100% effort to ensure riders had the best possible conditions on which to race. |

JOURNEY TO MECCA |

Sit up straight and pay attention. One of the biggest news items to hit Enduro, XC and Hare and Hounds has just been released.
The Triple H is here.
Hawkstone Park, the Mecca of off-road racing in the UK, if not the world and usually confined to MX, is open for business over the weekend of June 26th and 27th. |
Hawkstone has been out of reach for the Enduro mob over the last couple of years but the Hawkstone Hare & Hounds extravaganza will more than make up for lost time. Plans are being finalised for Adult and Youth riders, Quads and Solos to get a shot at riding Hawkstone. The rough events schedule looks like this at the moment but is liable to be refined nearer the race weekend.
Saturday 26th June. From 9.00am til 12.00 midday a half day RED event including a one-hour race then from 12,30pm until 3.00pm, two one hour moto-duro races with 30 minutes of practice followed at 4.00pm’ish a two hour quads hare and hounds race. As if that isn’t enough, Sunday is also jam-packed with action. The day begins with a 90 minute Kids H&H race from 9.00am til 10.30am followed by a full on Hare and Hounds from 11am til 1.00pm for Sportsman, Vets, Youth, Novice and Ladies followed at 1.30pm by a two and a half hour Hare and Hounds for Pro, Expert, Clubmen and Expert Vets.
This event schedule gives a wide range of riders an opportunity to give it large to their mates by saying they have ‘raced at Hawkstone’.
Don’t think that the event is solely for Hare and Hounds racers, MXers are more than welcome and it should be like playing on home turf for them with the course utilising part of the Hawkstone track before venturing into the large woodland surrounding the venue. Entries are expected to fill really fast so to ensure you have a place you need to download the entry form and get it sent off asap.
Who has pulled off this miracle? WOR Events of course, so you can rest assured that everything will run like clockwork over the whole weekend. For more information please visit www.worevents.com |
